Re: Trump
They con their way to power using psychological manipulation, a key part of which is inculcating fear of The Other (or several interlocking Others), and generating a belief that they alone can save people from this (usually almost entirely imaginary) Giant Threat.
Trump uses a huge proportion of his pronouncements telling people that they are under threat from a variety of Others (immigrants, the far left, transsexuals, the list is endless), and much of the rest telling them that he alone can remove these threats. Farage has convinced more than a quarter of the populace that people arriving across the channel in small boats are a giant threat to them, and guess what: that he alone can remove that threat.

A short film clip of President Ronald Regan advising why he was against trade tariffs https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5t5QK03KX ... ACAQ%3D%3D
It's been found by Canada and they've used it to embarrass Trump

Although as so often in these situations the truth's somewhere different. Reagan wasn't averse to using protectionist measures:cycle tramp wrote: 24 Oct 2025, 8:44am A short film clip of President Ronald Regan advising why he was against trade tariffs https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5t5QK03KX ... But the orange one's got the hump about it anyway, and broken off the trade talks. The Ronald Reagan Institute (IIRC) is very cross about its unauthorised use, too. (Although it needs no authorisation for its use, of course - and Trump routinely uses music without the agreement of the artist, which does!)

Re: Trump
Infantino has invented a FIFA Peace Prize to rival the Nobel. To be awarded in Washington DC.
No prize, however, for guessing the winner!
I'm not making this up.

It's the pressing of Big Red Buttons we should worry about. On the other hand, what's the point since neither Pukin or Trumpit take any notice whatsoever of what you or I might think or feel. Or anyone else, other than their rivals. It's their rivalry that'll eventually lead them to their various Big Red Buttons, bearing an avid inclination to press them.

Those Generals that Trump and his Secretary of Warmongering talked at last month didn't look inclined to plunge to world into nuculeer war at their say-so, I thought.Cugel wrote: 6 Nov 2025, 10:26amIt's the pressing of Big Red Buttons we should worry about. There's no chance of either of them doing that. Both are in it for their personal power and money, and using the Button would destroy that.Cugel wrote: 6 Nov 2025, 10:26amIt's the pressing of Big Red Buttons we should worry about. There you go again, assuming these monsters operate by reason and logic. If one or the other feels he is likely to become "a loser" in the zero-sum games they love to play, they will avoid the ignominy of such a fate by "winning" with their button.roubaixtuesday wrote: 6 Nov 2025, 10:45amThere's no chance of either of them doing that. Both Russia and Israel have government policies of "The Samson Option" which basically states that if there can be no Russia/Israel (by which they generally mean a totalitarian state with themselves as head of it or a theocracy of the mad) what point is there in there being a world at all? BOOM! Pull it all down. That'll teach 'em who's The Winner/Righteous Ones.
In the US there are now in the "government" many avid for The Apocalypse, as they feel that they themselves are members of The Elect and will be raptured up to heaven as the rest of the wicked world goes to hell. No need now to wait for the Big Bearded Bully in The Sky to arrange it as they have their apocalypse button and can create hell on Earth just like that. It won't take much in the way of a set back on the world stage for some loon to press the button in the hope of rapturating off to heaven, from where the torment of irradiated sinners can be gleefully observed.

It's a mistake to assume that the various monsters now grasping the reins (and reigns) of human history are sane like yourself. They demonstrably are not, as any number of events of late illustrate in no uncertain fashion. Genocides and sacrificing a million or two of the subjects as cannon fodder to make The Leader Great are once more a norm.

Those generals and others not "with the program" are likely, then, to be soon gone. If they won't go willingly that'll be one path to the start of the civil war MkII that's been slowly coming to a boil in the USA since the last one. The next one will have 140 years worth of development of the weapons of mass destruction behind it.Bonefishblues wrote: 6 Nov 2025, 10:42amThose Generals that Trump and his Secretary of Warmongering talked at last month didn't look inclined to plunge to world into nuculeer war at their say-so, I thought.Cugel wrote: 6 Nov 2025, 10:26amIt's the pressing of Big Red Buttons we should worry about. Reason and logic don't come into it. Low cunning is their key skill, combined with ruthlessness or extreme sociopaths.Cugel wrote: 6 Nov 2025, 12:46pmThere you go again, assuming these monsters operate by reason and logic.
