Was looking forward to watching Strade Bianche and was then mightily annoyed to find that Discovery+ was now suddenly wanting £30.99 a month

Where have you been? It was debated in Parliament last week!Jezrant wrote: 10 Mar 2025, 4:41pm

Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
Guess you don't read or watch any cycle sport news. Warner Bros stiffing cycle racing fans has been all over that news for weeks.

Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
You've guessed right. I haven't really followed cycle sport news in years. Liked watching some of the Spring Classics on Eurosport/Discovery+, the mountain stages of the TdF and the Giro, etc. Also liked watching some of the Alpine Skiing. But I won't be paying £31 a month to continue (nor the half price offer for 7 months). Will miss it but not the end of the world. And less time sat on my bum has to be a Good Thing.
Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
You can usually catch a short highlights on U Tube of the days events.
Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X2, Raleigh 20 stowaway, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840, Apollo transition.
Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
Full(ish) stage replays and live coverage is on sbs (Australian tv).
Requires vpn, but a minor inconvenience.
Not Tirenno-A though.

Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
I’d seen that on another forum yesterday and tried to get it to work using my better half’s vpn without much luck. must be doing something wrong. will try again later this week. btw, is this completely legal?Pendodave wrote: 11 Mar 2025, 8:20pm Full(ish) stage replays and live coverage is on sbs (Australian tv).

There is an offence of "pretending to be in Australia "?Jezrant wrote: 11 Mar 2025, 10:35pm I’d seen that on another forum yesterday and tried to get it to work using my better half’s vpn without much luck. must be doing something wrong. will try again later this week. btw, is this completely legal?
Incidentally, re YouTube, for a number of races the Belgian station "sporza" has 30 minute highlights rather than the 5 minutes tnt shows. Also a chance to work on your Flemish...
Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
Not legal, but it's probably a civil offence (like riding your bike on a footpath through the countryside) rather than a criminal one (like riding your bike on a roadside pavement), at least under English law. So you're probably most at risk of them cutting off your account, getting you booted off your VPN (as using a VPN to fraudulently access other services is often against VPN terms of use too, except for some of the shady ones who advertise it), and keeping any subscription fees you paid, including making a penalty or termination charge if their terms allow it. There is a tiny risk that they could come after you for big licensing fees but I don't recall that happening for private home viewers.Jezrant wrote: 11 Mar 2025, 10:35pm I’d seen that on another forum yesterday and tried to get it to work using my better half’s vpn without much luck. must be doing something wrong. will try again later this week. btw, is this completely legal?
However, I don't know Australian law and they might lock you up and/or refuse you entry to the country for ripping off SBS by breaching their "Australian audience" terms of use, for all I know.

Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
Not directly, but using VPNs or similar redirection to make yourself appear somewhere else is quite popular with the sort of people who attack websites and servers (who typically make themselves appear to be in lots and lots of other places all at once), so it is quite easy to commit some offences when you're doing it.Pendodave wrote: 12 Mar 2025, 8:53amThere is an offence of "pretending to be in Australia "?Jezrant wrote: 11 Mar 2025, 10:35pm I’d seen that on another forum yesterday and tried to get it to work using my better half’s vpn without much luck. must be doing something wrong. will try again later this week. btw, is this completely legal?![]()

Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
This topic (price increase by Discocery+/Eurosport/woteva) has been discussed everywhere, non-stop for about a month.
So of course, we really need another topic about it ...
... and I am highly amused that you guys have chosen A THREAD ABOUT A BIKE RACE THAT IS ON FREE-To_AIR TV TO ALL !!!!

It should only be an offence to talk like an Australian. IMO.Pendodave wrote: 12 Mar 2025, 8:53amThere is an offence of "pretending to be in Australia "?Jezrant wrote: 11 Mar 2025, 10:35pm I’d seen that on another forum yesterday and tried to get it to work using my better half’s vpn without much luck. must be doing something wrong. will try again later this week. btw, is this completely legal?![]()
Re: Paris - Nice highlights.
That’s interesting. My wife’s vpn is Proton, which advertises watching tv anywhere. They’re not exactly a shady outfit.mjr wrote: 12 Mar 2025, 11:33amNot legal, but it's probably a civil offence (like riding your bike on a footpath through the countryside) rather than a criminal one (like riding your bike on a roadside pavement), at least under English law. Apologies for the thread drift. Not like there’s been a lot of discussion about Paris-Nice however.
