Azub Max 24", Changing to a suspension fork

Post by RecumbentRide »

I'm looking at replacing the rigid fork on my Azub Max touring recumbent with a suspension unit to ease out the potholed roads and take on very small amount of off-road tracks in more comfort. I'm not sure what to go for and what the choice is i.e. road suspension or MTB forks. My budget would be no more than £250. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I've put some sizing below. Do they even make decent suspension forks for 24"/507 wheels? Spinners don't seem to be available anymore which were the standard 24" option for recumbents.

I'm thinking I'm going to have to fit an MTB fork i.e. 26" with 100mm travel and fingers crossed this won't negatively affect handling. Additionally does anyone know if the fork columns in bikes (which I'm aware I'll have to cut down) are standard diameter 1 1/8". I haven't measured mine yet. Any suggestions / advice much appreciated.

Wheelsize: 47x507
Current fork length: 43cm from tip of fork dropout to where it enters the frame

Obvious thing to do is contact Honza Galla or Alez at AZUB, I am sure they will give you all info you need or help to do that.

The steerer will be 1-1/8". Try measuring the fork offset, axle to crown length and steerer length. Then look for a suspension fork to match these allowing for a small amount of compression of the fork to match a loaded bike. It's likely that a 26" suspension fork would be too tall for you and would introduce an amount of noticeable fork flop.

I have an unused 20" suspension fork I'm prepared to sell at a reduced price if the dimensions are close to what you need, https://www.srsuntour.com/cs/products/f ... -5624.html

The Suntour XCT JR 20" susp fork you have would be good for my HPV Spirit actually which has 20" wheels. How much you looking for it?
Jan the sales manager replied from Azub this morning and suggested 24" forks as I thought he would. But the choice is abysmal and I'm still tempted to try a 26" suspension fork. The only negative is I'll have to cut down the steerer tube so if it doesn't work out I'm screwed. :(

I haven't done a proper search yet for 24" forks but from the prelim look I had it didn't look very promising.
