What colour mudguards did yo go for?

I am just about to order my Mk3 and cannot decide which colour frame or mudguards to go for.

Colour has just got to be blue,m/guards? black of course :D

PS,If the tyres seem a bit big they're 28mm Gatorskins.

Well I suppose black mudguards are ok, if you have a blue frame, that is...
Could I enquire about your stem spacers? This is one of the details I havent resolved yet and I've been somewhat stunned by the cost of those I've seen.

I think that's just the perspective compared to the sloping top tube. The saddle's just about horizontal.

The spacer below my stem was cut down from a bit of old Honda 600 exhaust pipe. Thin-walled stainless steel.

R2, what's that luggage you have? It seems to be held up by magic. Your previous picture showed a carrier supporting a bigger pack.

Nice picture. We need to get samples of pink and green bikes up as well.

I ordered a set of spacers with the frame,I think they were either £5 or £10 can't remember which :?

Re luggage:- yep the first rack was a four point one but when I go for a "quick blast" (at my age read slow blast) and don't need any luggage the rack looked naff so I bought an Altura seat post bag (£28 at LBS) which is plenty big enough for day rides and it expands too.It unclips leaving a very small clip(not Primus) on the seat post and the seat pack with essentials in .

Red with black mudguards, as seen on the (normally broken) Thorn forum. Campag kit as well.

One can get a handmade bike, fully kitted out for £899 :?:
What's the problem with frames made in Taiwan?

I actually enquired at Bob Jackson about one of their "off the peg" audax frames(£360) and was told four to six weeks wait and when and if I bought it,it wouldn't take 28mm tyres with M/guards :? ,I also didn't like the manner which I was dealt with both of which put me off.
Mercian's (£485+VAT)OTPeg Audax Special didn't take 28mm tyre either not that I felt I could justify the extra expence.
Which leaves Dolan I confess of which I didn't enquire though all of the frames from Dolan that I've seen appear to be of "taiwanese rubbish built" as you so elequently put it.

So for £299 with a 100 day money back option and next day delivery I thought I would give the "Taiwanese rubbish" a go,I knew it was Taiwanese built as Thorn make no bones about it.Indeed it has a decal informing as such (not saying its rubbish, that would be silly wouldn't it?)
Anyway I'm really happy with mine :) but then I probably don't know as much about bicycles as you obviously do,in which case I wouldn't have bought mine and been happy :)

PS, Have you ridden one(the Thorn sloppy angled Taiwanese rubbish that is)?

BTW Is your handmade British frameset equiped with British components?
Please do tell

The ride really well, even if the angles and geometry look wrong to you. I guess Thorn knew what they were doing.

I was tempted by Mercian, which would have been around £250 more but in the end I wasn't convinced it would be better for me than the Thorn. It would have been nice to have a frame made in Britain though.

And I was tempted by the Hewitt Cheviot. Only another £60 or so - but I felt the need to exercise some control over my spending. Come to think of it, I'm not 100% that some of his off the peg frames aren't from overseas...
Its just as well that most UK frame builders seem to have healthy order books, because I'm afraid that they're too expensive for me to help them along.
