New season Ineos kit

I'm not exactly your go-to source for hot fashion takes, but... what were they thinking?

I can only guess. Maybe:

- We're failing to get any exposure by actually winning anything - what else can we do to get media coverage??

I did hear that the idea was it would be easily spottable in the helicopter camera shots.

Most pro cycling kits are. Polyether-polyurea copolymer is especially common.

Most non-pro cycling kits are too, for that matter. Anything that's based on nylon or polyester or elastane (e.g., Lycra) is plastic.
While natural fibres have made inroads into tops in the general outdoor market, outside of the tweedy folk trousers are still overwhelmingly synthetics and increasingly so with the wider uptake of stretch fabrics.

Pete.

As I'm sure you know, there are now "plant" versions of some synthetic fibres, but they're more expensive, so easier to use when spandex or whatever is a lower percentage of the garment, not so much with pro kit.

I assumed orange and white must be Ineo colours, but a look at their website doesn't indicate that at all. It does show that they sponsor several teams in other sports, none of whom wear orange and white (apart from one runner's shoes), and interestingly their cycling team is shown with black shorts:

The not-quite-white is the New! Improved!* kit for the 2026 season, not actually raced in anger as yet, hence the pic you found showing a now retired squad member wearing something more presentable.

Pete.

* for some values of "Improved!"
