They can do it as various sorts of emulsion, and as gloss, but I think that is gloss as in “for interior woodwork”, so how hard-wearing it would be on a bike is anyone’s guess.

They can do paint for wood, metal, interior, exterior...
Not uncommon for people to want colour matching services for everything from walls and doors to radiators to garden furniture.

Thanks. I just wondered how suitable for bikes they would be? I know they sell paint for different materials, but would their paint for metals be ok for the demands of bikes and cycling? I feel car paints might, perhaps, be more appropriate?

Can't see that the demands for bikes are any more onerous than the demands for outdoor metal furniture or fixtures...?

Most of painting is in the prep and the OP has said:

so I suspect the highest quality finish is not top of the list, just something to protect it and look at least half decent.

If you were doing the job properly it'd be off to a professional sprayer for full strip, prep, painting, lacquer etc.

This thread reminds me of when I was at Copt Oak YHA 25 years ago. The warden had just bought a (red) Galaxy at about the same time I'd bought a Horizon, and wanted to know if I'd tried to get any touch up paint. He'd rung Dawes wanting to buy some, and had to keep nagging and nagging them for ages to get them to stop fobbing him off, and eventually they sold him a jam jar with some in.

Last time we considered Dulux Weathershield gloss paint from B&Q we found it was water based! Prior to that it was oil based (white spirit to wash brushes), so (as we wanted it for an exterior door) we decided against it. Instead, we bought coachpaint from Craftmaster paints in Over, Cambs - What a super finish! just like Number 10. :D

Paint ages and changes colour.
A car painter will have the gadget [spectrophotometertor] to measure the colour
and then mix the colour.

A local car paint supplier may be able to supply a correct colour paint but it is likely to be a bulk buy and quick drying.
A specialist (such as Smith and Allan, may also be able to supply an enamel paint of the correct colour, but (if not local to you) will require an accurate sample through the post - sending the forks is probably not a choice!

Not the case for us. They supplied just a few ml, a tiny amount, complete with a little brush attached to the lid, inside. Perfect!

Paint supplied by The Paint Centre, Newton Abbot. Super-helpful. They supplied this (I don't know why the photo has rotated):

... AND some special wipes to clean the surface prior to painting. Overall, I was very impressed with their service and help.

Was the supplier local and viewed/scanned the item? If they are distant, a sample or paint code is required.

Local, yes. They gave us the paint chart to work it out for ourselves.

Nothing was said about scanning the bikes. I don't know if that's an option now? This was in 2022.
