Alas, I think that's very true.
But they do, Well, they don't knowingly vote for Christmas because that isn't the ballot put before them. They vote for extra corn and a nice warm shed to go into on Dec 15th.

And for a nice farmer who tells them everything will be wonderful when he slaughters those nasty chickens who steal all their feed.

I hope the link roubaixtuesday provided has changed your opinion. I did quite a bit of field work in the early 80's, it was as you described, it was also reasonably well paid, cash in hand. It's a different world now, there are still some unskilled roles, but the majority of work requires some degree of skill, aptitude and training. Yet the pay rates are lower.

When I was a schoolboy in the sixties we earned a pittance on piecework picking broad beans. Hard work to make not very much cash in hand.
We also picked other crops for similar pay

It appears that a number of motorists must have voted Green, which will not suit the Reformers at all.

axel_knutt wrote: 27 Feb 2026, 4:10pm There was a Channel 4 documentary a few years ago in which the presenter made a pretty good case that much of the UK's economic woes are rooted in our dysfunctional housing market, with the lack of house building, lack of affordable housing, and our penchant for treating houses as investment commodities instead of places to live.
I’d say that there’s a lot of validity in that. Whilst a ‘home owner’ I still believe that houses shouldn’t be free of capital gains and that they should be homes rather than financial investments.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

In the winter of 1979/80 I picked sprouts and caulis, no piece work, you kept up with the tractor or they told you not to come back. £18 a day, £3 bonus if it there was snow or ice, just the £3 if you turned up and they weren't picking. The dole at the time was about £45 a fortnight, so a days work = a weeks dole, of course some were on both, not me, obviously...

..its possibly too soon to predict..
But it could be that Reform's wave is breaking... As support dwindles for Trump's Republican ideals so it's possible that Reform may see its supporters begin to leave..
..No one wants to see their citizens shot by members of government organisations.. and in local councils, funds caused waste and inefficiency haven't been found - and council tax goes up like any other region.
Reform's freshness has been somewhat tainted by the number of ex-Conservative mps who have recently joined...

..its possible even that people after months even years of hate may even give hope a chance

I heard their appearance in Reform described in one satirical piece like this - "The party positioned as the antidote to the Conservatives is fast becoming the place in which their residue accumulates; like limescale in the 1922 Committee’s kettle"!

Mini-Trump often cries fraud when he doesn't win. If he has no evidence, he should be charged with deceiving about the administration of elections, which is a crime in this country, apparently unlike the USA.

I like that!

The BBC put this out from Kuenssberg
Almost straight after the win.

I thought it smearing the Greens.
