My wife and I are expecting our first child. We would like to continue cycling after baby is born. Does anybody have any experience of how you can take a newborn baby on a bike? Trailers seem to be OK for 1 year old + but not any younger.
Thanks
John

Re:Cycling with Baby
we have brought four children up from birth straight into cycling with no problems and have very happy memories of teh process.
To start with, we strapped a carrycot into a Burley trailer in place of the nylon seats and our children were all carried in it from an early age. One came on the New Forest Cycling Week at just six weeks old. A few carefully placed pillows and the restraint straps helped.
The age of one is usually quoted as children should not sit up until they can support their own heads as it places undue strains on their necks.
We also cycle camped over much of Europe in the following few years, adapting our carrying arrangements as the children grew up.
At about 9 months our children were carried either in the trailer seats or on a seat on the back of a tandem. It was a sad day when we sold the Burley.
At just over three they moved to kiddiecranks on a tandem and tandem trike before graduating to bikes of their own.
We must have done something right as my eldest daughter completed an unsupported cycle-camping End to End when just 14.
Hope this helps
