Well - Some do, and Some Don't.

Post by Morzedec »

I thought it may be interesting (they can't touch you for it) to get a better idea of where posters are based. As everyone can plainly see, I reside in Cornwall and Deux-Sevres, together with every 'wild and free' camping site that I can find between the two places.

Ashamed of your location? Afraid that I might drop in with a bottle of French red? Thinking not to attract the lower classes? That your forum pseudonym hides the fact that your real name is G. Thomas or K Starmer? Or some other mysterious, or nefarious, reason that you don't want us all to know about?

So then, how about it? - we don't need to know the road and street number, or the exact location of your country mansion, but just a rough idea of where you are based. Gosh, really, I never knew that he lived THERE!

Happy Days.

Leave Lands End and follow the LEJOG route to the RRA 24 hr record point. I’m very close to there

ps It took me considerably longer. :D

Good Idea but a clue as to the availability of rich widows may be useful. :)

I hail from the Western edge of Taunton, 50m from the Sustrans route to the West and see lots of touring cyclists passing by who call in to our Post Office across the road for a cake, ice cream or drink. The adjacent family butcher does excelent pies too. This summer we will experiment opening our garden on the WTMG scheme.

Cornwall is a large County. Can you be a bit more specific? And, are you one of Trelawnys men or an incomer?

This is the view from the rear window of the house I used to live in.

Now I’m living about a mile away with a view of the last tin mine to close and, with a bit of luck, the first to be reincarnated.
The West Kernow Way also passes my front door and I am often to be seen there with a bag of nails and a few tools ready to kybosh/assist passing riders.

Someone (maybe important, so I'd better comply) wants to know more exactly where I hail from, so here you are: having spent a lot of time living around Polzeath (years ago, before it became over-posh) and then living in the wilds of West Penwith between St Ives and Saint Just, I now live in a village between Bodmin and Liskeard, moving there when the French house was purchased so as to be within a closer (50km) cycling distance of the port at Plymouth.

In France I live in the middle of nowhere, between Bressuire and Parthenay, the region known as Deux-Sevres - but as most French people have never heard of it, you will have to look on a map. However, I'm easy to find, because the Voie Verte between the two towns goes straight past the cottage, which once belonged to the railway crossing keeper (known as a Maison de Garde Barriere). I don't mind people knowing where this house is, because during the summer months we host cyclist of many nationalities, for water, coffee, buns, or to camp in our flat garden. All free of charge, of course - the 'payback' coming with invites to stay at the homes of other cyclists - the latest one being at Buffalo, in New York State, close to Niagara Falls.

Some people arrive but once, other every year bearing small 'thank you' gifts - bottle of wine, box of biscuits, rich sisters telephone number, that sort of thing. Everyone welcome this year between July and September - and no, we are not on Booking.Com nor Tripadvisor, just turn up.

Sorry Franco, no rich widows yet booked in, you will have to take pot luck when you arrive.

Happy Days!

I'm living in the sprawling conurbation of Waterloville, a town of 70K with nothing of interest and no railway station. Cycle provision is patchy. There are no cycle shops. But it is close to the south coast and the south downs. I shall probably move when I stop working in a couple of years.

Obvious which County from my user name, but to narrow it down a little I live in a town in South East Cornwall that's chained to Plymouth.

Nice to see a strong Cornwall entry here. I live between Looe and Liskeard and am well acquainted with the stonking hills all round me.

RJB - there is nothing in Cornwall 'on the level' - one is either going up or down hill.

I might have plumped for Saltash, but as the ferry crosses on chains you may be correct to say Torpoint (unless the poster goes from Cremyl).

Until I knew better, I always thought that a 'Tamar Tag' was a lady of ill repute. Union Street, anyone? - not me, after dark.

Ah, such a shame. The council missed a trick there by not putting up a blue plaque to commemorate the location of my 3rd Triathlon.
