Recycling bikes

Post by gazzam »

I've just bought a new bike and have my old one to dispose of.
I've heard that there are places who will refurbish for use in developing countries.
Does anyone have contact details?

I don't know, but I have one that I'd like to recycle too. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

If you live in London. Just search the internet or your council website and im sure they have a project going to recycle bicycles.

Try Re-Cycle.org. It appears to be a three option form of donation for bikes. The fourth option being a suggested £10 donation to the charity for transportation costs to foreign parts. If you can't find it, try using a lower case R and C in the address.

It may be helpful for members if you stated what area of the country you live in as there are a number of bike recycling projects. In Edinburgh where I live there is the bikestation
www.thebikestation.org.uk

and in Glasgow there is a project at Castlemilk

Thank you for the advice.
I'm based in South Warwickshire where there are no bike recycling facilities. However you've given me a thought as local hospice run a second hand shop at the local tip.
Unless anyone wants to buy a five year old Dawes KaraKum and I'll donate the proceeds to Oxfam......

How much work does it need to get it roadworthy? I live in Birmingham and might be interested for my daughter who's turning into a keen cyclist and who needs to move on from a 10 year old MTB.
