transporting a bike abroad

Can anyone advise the best method of sending a bike to the USA? Cheapest method, time not important.

I presume you're not going just the bike? If so a cardboard bike box that new bikes are delivered in is best, your local shop will probably give you one if you ask.
You now have a package within airfreight dimensions that can be sent via UPS or DHL but it's not cheap!
