first commute!
well got the new bike earlier this week, had to change the shoes yesterday as the front bolt wouldn't take a screw, so after a practise last night learning how to get in & out of look keo cleats was finally able to cycle in this morning over 10 miles of bristol hills, did have to get off & walk at one point (it's been a while!) but feel really good now.

Welcome to Commuting!
Dunno if the way home will be downhill or not, but I bet you spend a large portion of today thinking about it! I know I do even after a whole years worth of commuting.
Well done by the way, 10 miles is a BIG commute in my opinion.
You know when you have made it, when you start looking forward to the rain!

End of my first week cycling as well.
10 miles each way means that I'll be doing miles 90-100 in an hour or so. Decent enough commute
This morning was heavy fog - my glasses were steaming up and getting masses of fog collecting as droplets allacross their lenses. Fortunately my sight is good enough to look over them, but it was not good.

I used to enjoy the misty frosty mornings. I had a 17 mile each way commute, but it was just too hard to do it every single day week in week out. I always tried to get the Monday and Tuesday under my belt, then that way I could pick and chose for the other days, knowing I'd given it my best shot! 3 or 4 days a week was optimum, but I did do 5 days quite a bit.
So basically, 10 miles is good! Much better than 17 - too far to do every day.

I commute 31 miles a day round trip which i love since i started my new job.I'd spent about 5 years not doing commuting and really missed it so it's great to be back again getting the miles in even though the traffic can be bad.I don't find doing these miles a problem at all but i must admitt i did spent best part of 20 years racing until a few years ago.
agree...well done...keep it going. I started a 20 mile rouds commute last year, lost shower facility but regained it a few months back..aiming for at least 3 x weekly. Does get better in terms of 'recovery'...I'm chief cook and bottle washer in our house, and I can get off bike some nights and be in kitchen getting tea (or dinner if you prefer) ready almost immediately (well, after the obligatory cuppa)..still find some muscles a bit sore during some parts of ride, but am putting this down to still increasing fitness, perhaps with still developing/refining technique. But overall, its a great thing to do..so press on!!
(and find myself becoming increasingly fascinated by all things cycling associated....found a web site for hand built bikes yesterday and was almost drooling at one bike in particular!!

Well done, the cycling commuters! I wish I could commute on my bike - my 8.00 am 'commute' is the few yards from the living room to my other living room (office). Which is why it's neccessary for me to simulate cycling commution with iron discipline every afternoon (7/365, except for holidays? - I don't quite understand that myself).
