Need info on bike rental & route

Post by Paul507 »

Hello,

I am planning a trip to Scotland to do some biking on the National Cycling Network, specifically the route from Inverness to Glasgow. I have three questions.

First- is there a good place to rent a bike in the Glasgow area? I will be arriving there and that leads to my second question...

Am I allowed to travel with the rented bike on the train to Inverness in order to start my trip there and finish in Glasgow? (Then returning the bike)

Lastly, what might be a good general description for the terrain? Rolling hills (which is what I suspect) or steep hills that it might take an hour to get to the top of?

I appreciate any advice you might have.

Paul

In brief
1) Google 'Bike rental glasgow'
2) http://www.firstgroup.com/scotrail/cont ... e-info.php
3) It's Scotland. It goes up and down. A lot! (Buy the Sustrans map which shows the profile or look at the interactive OS map at www.sustrans.org)

Hi there Regarding your trip , Like the Irish joke I would not start from there. Come to Dundee on the train and enjoy the trip through Angus. For bike hire see Crightons in Blairgowrie (they also run tours) and have a large hire fleet. Spokes in St Andrews also hire mountain bikes. Dont go on the elephant trail to Inverness try the quiet side of Scotland NorthEast Fife is just great for touring without heavy traffic and or mean hills. Spectacular views are a bonus. Enjoy your holiday and dont forget the midge cream in summer. Regards Robert
