I am in possession of a couple of books by a gentleman called Frederick Alderson. He is a very military looking chap and I assume he has served in the army in India as he makes references to the country occasionally in his books. His books seem to have been written in the late '60s or '70's and have been out of print for some time, but I managed to get a copy of one on Amazon.
Does anyone know anything about him? There's not much about him by way of a biography.
I'm hoping to reprise his cycle tour of England by Bicycle next year.
Any information about him would be most welcome: what I do know is that he used to be a member of the CTC.

I've read "England by Bicycle" and really enjoyed it. Even in the 60's/70's he was talking about "Tin Man and his Motor Can", referring to motorists. God knows what he would think of today's traffic conditions.

I know. It's nice to be out of an urban environment and into the countryside, preferably early on a Sunday morning before the Saturday night's revellers wake up with their hangovers and drive their familes around still under the influence.

Mind you that one came unstuck this Sunday lunchtime: cycling home from Croft I encountered a scooter rally coming the other way, at least a couple of hundred of them. I could have done with oxygen after inhaling all those two-stroke petrol fumes!

Frederick Alderson was my grandfather - though this was his pen name. He wrote many books about travel and English life. For the record - he was not in the army but the Air Ministry during WW2 and only travelled to India in later life. I can supply more info if required
