Shimergo with new Campag Ergopower
Will new Campag 10sp Ergopower levers work with Shimano 8sp gears as per older(pre-QS)type?
Campag 10sp ergo lever will work with Shimano 9sp rear mech,
same applies to 9sp ergo lever and 8sp ear mech.

Hi, i have been using xenon qs shifters with 8 speed shimano 105 rear mech. Everything works fine. Only problem was with the front shifting which was very stiff. Eventually replaced the front mech with a campag xenon mech but had to remove the plastic insert from the chain guide probably as the 8 speed chain is wider than a 10 speed one.
I have both 9 and 10 speed Xenon Eggo levers. Also I have some information from C J 's Shimergo pages.
The Xenon front shifter has 6 clicks to change from the smallest ring to biggest and 2 clicks the other way. When down shifting the middle position does match the middle chainring with a MTB front mech.
First I will put about the rear changer. I concentrated on cable pull per click of the lever.
Shimano 7 speed 2.9mm
Shimano 8 speed 2.8mm
Campag 9 speed 3.0mm
Campag 10 speed 2.8mm
From this it can be seen the Campag 10 matches perfectly Shimano 8.
Campag 9 is very near the Shimano7.
So if you use Shimano rear cassette and deraileur with the correct chain for the cassette it will work fine.
The Front shifter has caused much discusion on this forum. I can only write about the new 07/08 Xenon, as these are the ones I have.
The front shifters pull
Shimano Road 13.5mm
Shimano MTB 19.5mm
Campag 18.0mm
The Campag was mearsured by me with a digital vernier. This was an average of about 10 checks.
From this we can see why the Campag shifter a hard to move with a Shimano road front deraileur. I have used the Campag shifters with a MTB front mech and it required reasonable presure on the lever.
I can say with a Shimano road front mech the lever was hard to push to change up and down.
Thus if you want to use a front chain ring of 48 teeth or less you would be better to use a MTB mech.
If you want to use more than 48 teeth front chain ring a Camag mech would be best.
Again I would like to thank CJ for the info in the Shimergo document.
