Slipping carbon seatpost

Post by cycleruk »

Hi'
Does anyone have a tried and tested method of stopping a carbon seatpost from slipping down?
The frame is titanium and after my first ride the post had dropped a centimetre or so.
I believe this can be a problem with carbon.

I have done a search with no results.

Not tried and test by me but I did see a product on one of the cycle sites that seemed like a gel with loads of tiny beads in that crushed down and gripped carbon product. (they claimed)

Something like this?

first of all are you sure its the correct size. I once bought a top end MTB frame from a reputable LBS who also kitted me out with a seatpost (alloy, not carbon) using their knowledge of sizes. Seatpost kept slipping and I kept tightening. By chance, i tried a bigger dia post from my roadbike, and guess what - it fitted easily and no slip. So, I had been supplied the wrong size.

also, are you greasing? I was told to fit my carbon post dry, unlike metal to metal.

I have successfully used Tacx Carbon Assembly Compound for 2 years now with my carbon fibre seatpin in a steel frame.

The seatpin does not move and the paste has prevented any rain getting down the seat tube which was showing rust after the seatpin was initially assembled dry.

Thanks guys for the replies.
The seatpost came with bike so should be the right size. I did notice something on the post but have cleaned that off.( and down inside the frame tube.)
I will probably try the compounds referred to.
