Brake toein q&A suggestion
In the current Cycle mag, I am unclear about thebrake squeal prevention diagram: is that filed out section as large as it looks? does it go right the way thu the block? Perhaps some photos would clarify everything.

I think the diagram in the ctc mag exaggerates the cut out. I have pads in metal holders that leave less than 5mm of pad showing so I couldn't make a cut out as big as the diagram suggests. I was tempted to try it by starting off with a shallow groove - maybe 2mm deep and see how it works before making it deeper if needs be.
Not sure if I'll bother though. I've tried all sorts to stop my front canti brakes juddering and come to the view that I must just put up with it (or swap the forks so that I can fit some decent caliper brakes)

Have you tried using a fork hanger rather than a stem hanger? It cured the potentially lethal judder on my Van Nicholas - no thanks to them for shipping the bike like that. FS Kona from dotbike.com.

Or try Tektro CR520(or CR720). With Oryx I got a load of screach and judder but with the CR520 I don't get anything. I also use Koolstop MTB pads which stop well but I now have to deflate the tyre to get the wheel out!
