Well 'dr'jones , I fall in Meics camp on this & find your use of the term 'perverse and disproportionate'.

...and I only started this thread to ask fellow wheel-builders about reasonable quality, practice and whether 'dremelling' was normal (not that I thought it was!).

When I was a kid with steel rims. We did file the ends off our spokes after fitting them. We also went round the rim with a file taking the ends of any spokes after trueing the wheel. Then we stuck a thick rim tape on!

I took quite a long time getting used to the fact that you can adjust or even replace spokes with the tyre on. If you have a double walled rim.

Seller now slimed with negative feedback. At least I can salvage the hubs and rebuild some decent wheels.
