Does anyone know the reason some London phone boxes are painted black. Can't find an answer anywhere. I've emailed BT but no reply as yet.

The black ones are in the City of London, aren't they?

I think so but there are red and black ones in the same area.

The black ones are not BT ones. I think BT have the sole right to have their boxes red.

Thanks for that. A friend at work has just found out the same on the net.

On the B1257 between Stokesley and Helmsley N Yorks, there was a old style phone box painted green, so as not to stand out in the National park.
I can't recall seeing it recently. Perhaps I wasn't looking or it really does blend in.
