Shoes normally come without cleats. Cleats are pedal specific, pedals usually come with Cleats

You get a set of cleats with "SPD" pedals.
They are available separately though :-

http://www.ctcshop.org.uk/cycling/p/CTC ... 000000886/

These are in the CTC shop but are about half that price at other stores (£9.00).
The Lidl shoes are only for SPD style cleats (not Look etc) and are easy to fit.
The shoes can be used without cleats if you just want to use them with toestraps.

I didn't get cleats when I bought my pair last year.

It's a shame they're not selling the dual-sided pedals that they sold in previous years (clipless one side, regular flat platform the other). The cost of the pedals including SPD-copy cleats was less than the cost of SPD cleats in regular cycle shops, and was a great introduction to clipless riding for me.

stock report:

no cycle computers in my local one (Acre Lane) :( which was the only thing I wanted and the pannier bags had been cleaned out already.

I'm just about to head down to one of my locals - got to decide whether to go to Greenford or Pinner. I reckon there will be more cyclists in Pinner interested in the gear. Not sure. Maybe I should just toss a coin.

Just bought a jacket, shoes, mitts and a computer. Thought about a shirt & shorts but decided not to.
Hurry, there were 4 other cyclists in at 10 am, including a guy from Seattle!
If at first you don't succeed - cheat!!

Just got a cycle hoist, jersey and shorts. Was tempted by the computer but i already have one for each bike so decided against. I'm figuring the shorts and jersey will be good enough for daily commute at least.

Bought quite a bit for the four of us, although by 9.30 this morning medium anything had gone - to reappear on eBay this afternoon in all probability.

Their tool set in a pouch is fair value, bought my son one as it's about time he learnt to fix his own bike. Also another pair of Lidl shoes, my third! The other two do exactly what I want from a touring shoe, one SPD one flat. The 3rd is justified because when MTBing I sometimes need them faster than they dry. A bit lame but the best I can manage.

Also bought a rear prop stand because I use my camping bike for shopping and there's never anywhere to lean it in the market. And a handlebar bag, described as a front pannier. Haven't opened that yet, are they any good?

The Dewsbury store had plenty of everything in about an hour ago, it has a bit less now!
Shoes look good, the backpack is very light and I got a few other bits and bobs including a "spare" computer. Didn't get the pannier bags but they had several left as well, although I think that they did not have too much stock of those in the first place.

Bought a jacket, couple of shirts and a pair of shoes - despite an unkempt thug telling me you can't open the box. I replied "are you a member of staff?" He grunted yes.

I remained unconvinced because he had no uniform, no badge, was wearing a hooded top (hood down) and just loitering with intent around the cycling stuff. My first thought ...as were my second and third thoughts were that he was a mugger/shoplifter/druggie

If he was staff, and I believe he was as I later saw him talking to a member of staff in a uniform on the subject of opening boxes he must have put a hell of dent in their sales. After a wander around and on the way to the checkouts he had a go at an old couple where the bloke was checking that all the bits and instructions were supplied with a bench grinder, the bloke was all set to thump rent-a-thug and his wife telling him to ignore him and behave!

I must admit it was very tempting to revisit and start opening boxes just to p1ss him off

I always try at least one shoe on in the shop, the reason being their sizes vary enormously. Sometimes an 8 is too snug, other times a 7 shoe is roomy. Unfortunately you can't do the same with sealed clothing but in the past I've found their shorts plenty big enough in medium but large tops only just fit.

So long as you open the box carefully, don't scatter stuff everywhere and replace the shoes exactly as you found them I don't see why they should mind - or are we supposed to buy 3 times as much as we need like everyone else and return the things we don't want depriving everyone else of stuff?

Just bought a pair of shorts. They are going back.
Not impressed with the quality or the fit.

The shoes are really good. I bought another pair to go with the other 2 pairs I have.
The cycle comp is very good too. I bought the same one last year and the display and menu is very logical and clear.
The panniers are excellent although I didn't really need them. The missus or my lad will be pleased I got them. The cycle rucksack is a lot lighter than the previous issue. Same design but built to an even tighter budget. The helmet carrying compartment is very useful.
The shorts feel and look good.
I bought a jacket and a jersey. Very poor cut and material. Just horrible. The Aldi 'Crane' cycle wear is much better.
Gloves are OK and the socks look great for the cash.

Get into the store the night before. They put the stuff out then and you can buy. I got to the store as they finished laying it out and had the ultimate choice. 91 quid lighter but got a load of gear.
Apart from the jacket and jersey, very happy

No jackets, no shorts but plenty of socks if you are size 5!

Not impressed at all :(

Oh well, I suppose that Aldi will have their stock in soon.

If you want a handlebar bag, Lidl's are pretty damn good. Modern style with a klik fix bracket fitting and a multi-seal map case for £11.70.
