Name the bad and dangerous drivers WEB SITE?

Post by brian55 »

I believe there is a web site you can name and shame a dangerous driver. It will record by registeration your reports giving the history of bad drivers.
Please can anybody recommend a website?

Sussex has Operation Crackdown, but there's no public 'naming', so not what you are after?

same reg plates crop up.
Rule 63

Cycle Lanes. These are marked by a white VAN (which may be broken) along the carriageway (see Rule 140). Keep within the lane when practicable, watch out for Anna Meares elbows.

If you really are "upset" about an intimidating driver then report them to the police.
Try and get their registration (not easy I know) and any other factors (man/woman- car type/colour).
We have had some success in our area as we now have a dedicated police officer to report to.

I had a quick look at that site. Looks like quite a good idea but there's a risk of it being used maliciously (I didn't try typing in my own car reg. to see what would happen  ).

There are two columns of checkboxes, headed 'positive' and 'negative'. In the 'positive' list the options are:
Courteous driving
Good awareness
Informed of vehicle problem
Shared Car Park ticket
Warned of speed camera

Not sure about those last two!

Don't think that I'm totally convinced of the merits of such sites.

Firstly, what are the chances of people regularly trawling such sites just to see if they are on them?
And should they discover that they are on one then what would the outcome be? Would they decide to mend their ways or would they decide to take this frustration out on the next cyclist that they meet (after first writing an email to the site threatening legal action, and secondly writing to the Daily Wail about this further infringement on the rights of the downtrodden, honest law abiding driver)?

And, as has been stated, what about the ease with which the site can be miss used - you could easily imagine a site about bad cycling: the bad cyclists listed being the ones that didn't use cycle paths or weren't riding in the gutter or didn't have a helmet.

You'd let google/search engine do the trawling.

I dunno, I'm sure it could be abused, like most things, but you could probably tell by the dates, description of driver.
Could be useful to let off steam where the police aren't interested or find if someone/a reg plate has a history of bad driving/giving another particular road user grieve. Not sure how you could use it, but interesting.

I'm amazed how people remember number plates, I can usually only get parts if any at all!

I'm still not convinced that many people would find referenece to themselves. Assuming that the majority of people on here have cars as well as bikes, how often do you all put your own reg plates into google? I'd wager not very - it's not something that I every did or even thought of when I had one.

Yeah, but how does that stop abuse? And if you are wrongly placed on the site and know about it, how do you get off it?

That wouldn't stop abuse, I meant that you could probably tell if someone was falsifying reports.

If you found you were on there Si ;-) , I'd write to the website opperators and ask them for proof that it happened, a right to reply or for it to be removed. Then if that failed the ISP that some sort of T.O.S was being abused. :)

As an add on to the above:-
An incident today which involved a car speeding towards and giving abuse to 5 of our club riders.
Car turned around and drove back and as they overtook they through a bottle at them.
One of the cyclists is a fourteen year old boy.
Anyway our guys got the cars registration, make and colour and reported it to the police.
The police have informed us they are going to issue a section 59 warning.

We had an incident last year and the offenders car was confiscated and probably crushed.
If any vehicle driver causes any aggravation, no matter how minor you think this is, then they can be cautioned under this act.

That's a good one to know cycleruk. I assume it would cover harassing verbally too?
Yesterday I had two guys in a car and the passenger wound down the window to shout abuse and film it on his mobile phone, it's happened before when the passenger shouts to try and make you jump and wobble I guess, that's got to be covered under 'Vehicles used in manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance'??

Now I have to just remember reg plates. (Or keep video recording all the time)

We had a policemen down to a Club night to give us the low down.
He said basically "If it ( the incident) causes your granny to blink then that's enough."

Yes verbal abuse is enough - causing alarm!

We have had a few incidents in our area over the last couple of years.
Shouting as they drive past.
Throwing bottles in front.
Manually pushing cyclist of the road.
Besides the odd driving to close.

We also have a member who has one of those small video cameras on his handlebars and this has been used as evidence.

So, the police will take action, but only if there are other witnesses, or camera evidence?
Because I reported dangerous driving yesterday and was told "nothing we can do, your word against hers"

Again.
