... how to get from Rugby Station to National Route 41?

Post by pal »

Hello. I'm heading to deepest Northants this weekend, and planning to start my ride from Rugby station. The Sustrans site suggests that National Route 41 heads in roughly the right direction, but their map is a bit vague on access points/street names/etc. Any more detailed directions would be gratefully received. (The Rugby cycling map seems to be offline at the moment...) If this is one of those Sustrans paths which should be avoided at all costs by those on road bikes, that would be useful to know too!

Many thanks.

Seems to me there is a clear access point, the yellow blob. Head in an easterly direction from the station, the road appears to go under the route (there might be the means to scramble on to it here), swing south in front of the college and head back towards the west where the access point is.???????

Ive never been on cycle route 41, nor ever been to Rugby, but last summer I did use several routes on the NCW and always found them to be very well signed albeit rather small blue signs with a cycle and a number on it.

Thanks! I'd spotted the yellow blob, but was wondering whether there's any access at any other point (and therefore a way to avoid having to cycle through the centre of Rugby). Since the route (seems to) start so close to the station, it would seem logical for there to be a way to get onto it closer to the station (ideally without scrambling..) But logic and cycle paths don't always go hand-in-hand, I know!

Turn left out of station building and right at road; take first left (Abbey Road) towards end, then look for the gate and track to your right. This will lead you across the dirt to the Great Central Way. Further along you will pass the original station platform (much overgrown). Continue to the end of the track. At the end join the road and continue in the same direction, climbing to Barby. Continue through until after crossing A361 then immediately left to next junction where right; left at T and across A5 to Watford; right off left bend to Long Buckby; at end in town left then bear R and R again to Great Brington along narrow road. Over to you at that point!
