Will be cycling coast of Britain this year and am planning route. Will be coming down Lancs coast late June/early July. Would like some advice please about cycling to Mersey ferry coming from Southport esp city section-I'm a country boy.
Also cycling around Wirral and heading for Rhyl.
Is there only one ferry route across Mersey?
Thanks.

Re: Southport to Mersey Ferry
Others might be able to give better advise esp about getting into Liverpool and accessing the ferry.
There is only one ferry as far as I know.
Wirral is beautiful, Head over to the west coast asap and you can pick up the Wirral way country park route.
Sorry cannot do things like right click and open tab browsing etc so cannot post any links for you.

Re: Southport to Mersey Ferry
The Transpennine Trail goes from Southport to the outskirts of Liverpool (Childwall), where it connects to a (well) signed cycle route down to the docks (and the Mersey ferry): National Route 56. Last time I rode it (which was a couple of years ago) the stretch from Aintree to Liverpool (the 'Liverpool Loop') was fine (tarmac surface, though a bit broken-glass-strewn). The 'Cheshire Lines' section (between Aintree and Southport) was very hard going -- more like a footpath than a cycle route. It might have improved since then, but if not I'd be inclined to stick to the roads: they're mostly pretty quiet; the stretch of coast road immediately south of Southport can get busy, especially at weekends, but there's a cycle lane most of the way.
Re: Southport to Mersey Ferry
Thank you both for your help. Cycle route will be jotted down in my notes.
2 hours later: have actually now downloaded notes and maps for route 56 and Liverpool Loop Line from Liverpool Council sight. Thanks again.
Later again: have now found cycle Wirral website inc. ref to Eureka cyclists cafe and shop. Feel well prepared now.
