Talking to oneself?

On long solo rides, do you?
Or, if not to oneself then to animals (I can't help baaaaing back at sheep), inanimate objects (gravel and potholes always get a good telling off), or road planners (on crawling up a long steep hill the last of my energy is often spent talking to whoever put a message on the road saying "slow" - yes, I know I am, no need to rub it in).
I would prefer to sing to myself, but that really would get cyclists a bad name.

Ah, some answers - glad I wasn't talking to myself - again
I think that MTBing is also bad for this, I'm always talking o the tree or drop-off that has just tried to kill me.
On the roads I also talk to cars, even thought their drivers haven't a chance of hearing me: "that's it, have a proper look, yep, I am actually here, don't pull out yet," etc - I find the running commentary makes me more aware of the dangers.

Well yes - but then again, No!
Its amazing how often I become aware of an audience just when the diatribe is getting intense

I found a cure for this embarrassing habit - I bought a tandem. It worked! Now I spend most of my miles listening.

The other problem I have with singing (apart from people calling out the RSPCA when I try it) is that I always end up with the most annoying tune in my head. The other day I was stuck with the jingle from the "Compare The Meercat.com" advert all the way across the city and back again.

Yes.
Constantly.
I've always done it.
Why does no-one listen?

Reminds me of "Touching The Void". When he gets "Brown Girl In The Ring" stuck in his head.
"Oh no! I'm dying to Boney M. {FFE - family-friendly edit }!"

Absolutely.
How else do you get the right answer?

One thing I've noticed as I've gotten older, the people around me talk to themselves more and more...
I take it to be a sign of mental deterioration.
Besides what's the point of vocalising a train of thought? Speech is such a slow thing, thoughts flow much more smoothly without.

It took me ages to read that, Kwackers, old chap.

I think it's an age thing. Sorry Si! I do it in my head all of the time. At least I think that's why Mrs byegad never replies to me. That or she's going deaf!
