I am planning to ride from the English Channel coast to the Mediterranean coast through France.
Looking for route advice to plan a scenic, memorable trip.

Re:France end to end
If your a CTC member there are heaps of routes available already documented by members, if not, try reading Edward Enfields book "Downhill all the Way", an account of a trip he did down through France, and just follow his route.

Re:France end to end
Do you want to go all the way in France? I did a nice trip through northern France (Champagne region) to Alsace (more nice wine) into Switzerland at Basle (mind the tram lines) south past Lucerne and over the Gotthard pass to Italy and Lake Maggiore, Piedmonte (Asti and Alba, more wine) then over the Ligurian Alps to the coast at Albenga. From their it's a short ride to France and Monaco.

My wife and I did a trip from the Med coast of Spain up through France to Dieppe. This was an easy route which you could do in reverse. You can see it at

Thanks for all the suggestions. The CTC routes were a useful reference and combined with the Rough Guide to France we have our general route planned. We will ride from Dieppe, pass east of Paris through Burgundy, Massif Central and S to Montpelier and the Med returning on the EBE. Just need to put a few miles in the legs in preparation.

Re:France end to end
I am doing a similar trip in reverse this summer - taking EBE to Montpellier and cycling to Calais. I have found the lonely planet guide (cycling in France) useful and have planned the route round the "cycle friendly" logis de France - the search engine on the logis site produces a list. Good Luck
