I would like to cycle from Whitehaven to Tynemouth i phoned a company that does just that, but there are sections of off roading on route and they said that it could be dangerous to do on a raceing bike especially if it was wet.
Has anyone ideas how best to ride this and use of transport getting there and back. That was what i liked about doing it with the C2C company they take you back to your car after you complete the trip.

Depends on what you mean by a road bike.
If it's a 23c racing machine then you'll need a road route instead.
On a tough tourer with 32c tyres I would think most is doable, provided you avoid the Old Coach Road part of the route.

I did it a few years back on an MTB and thought at the time it could be done OK on a proper bike :D

Whinlatter forest can be easily bypassed if looks too muddy, and certainly avoid the Coach road! - the rest of the offroad bits are mostly stony track which a road bike with wide & rugged tyres will easily handle.

Looking at your post, do you mean from Whitehaven or Workington to Sunderland or Newcastle. Or to get to Workington from Whitehaven, anyway either way. The C2C is easily done on a road bike in any weather (apart from snow), don't worry about the off-road sections, there is alternative's for the humble roadie. Just get out there and enjoy the North Pennines. You get easily get a train back to the start from Sunderland or Newcastle.

Hope this helps you. Log on the C2C web-site for more info.
