Tyres/Innertubes.

Post by MattyDeez »

Hi all,

I just like some advice really, i'm going to be getting some nice smooth rolling tyres from this website: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=18824

Now, do i need to get different innertubes to the one i've already got, the 26 x 1.75 and just blow the tube up to a different pressure?

My current bike is a Giant Yukon FX2.

Thanks, i hope you know what i mean.

Matt.

A 26 x 1.75 tube would work fine with a 1.5 tyre, it would just be a little heavier than need be. It would probably survive being used in a 2.1 tyre, but might be a little more vulnerable to thorns etc because the rubber would be strtched thinner.
But why worry?
Conti tyres usually come with a "free" inner tube

What I would be more concerned about is your rim tape. Sometimes manufacturers will fit cheap stretchy tapes to wheels intended for use with knobblies. They'll be fine at mtb pressures, but pump a tyre to 80 psi or more and they can be bulged into the spoke holes, split over the edge of the metal, and leave your tube with a row of little holes...
If you dont know what you have fitted just replace it with a suitable tape,
Trying to retain enough fitness to grow old disgracefully... That hasn't changed!

Most tubes wil indicate the safe range. You do not mention if you are downscaling or upscaling - but the effects have already been mentioned.
