Stupid stupid stupid...

Post by DaveP »

Having recently come to the conclusion that I'm happy with the height of the bars on my Thorn Audax I finally got round to trimming of the "extra" bit of steerer tube. Set up on workmate. New blade in hacksaw. Managed a fairly square cut...
and neatly bisected the starspangled thingy in the process

I know. They arent expensive. You can manage without one. But I'm still fuming.
Tomorrow starts with a drive to Halfords instead of a ride to ?

D'oh! If it's any consolation, you're not alone. I had a draught under my kitchen door, which for some reason was about an inch shorter than it should have been. I had a new kitchen put it, with a nice stone floor, which was about an inch thicker than the old one. So, before putting the door back on, I cut an inch off the bottom...

No, not "Doh" but "another fine mess".

I think that stekch was actually Laurel and Hardy, only they went on correcting the door height for a bit longer... or shorter.

Maybe 12 years ago, I bought a new carbon fibre carp fishing rod. Got it home and waggled in around then decided the generic plastic tube rods come in from the shop was too long and I'd shorten it a foot or so. Go in search of hack saw. Wife sees new rod lying around and thinks Sheesh, that'll get broken lying there. She puts rod back in tube. I return from shed with hacksaw and make a nice job of shortening tube and, I discover at the end, new rod.

Stupidity and bad luck.

I wonder how many people have cut up the new credit card instead of the old one?
I haven't - yet - but I always check, and double-check, and then triple-check some more, before I wield the scissors. I don't trust myself.

Commiserations all round!
My sad tale had a surprise happy ending: I went to the Big H and asked for a starfangled thingy. It turned out that although they had loads of 1", they were out of stock on 1 1/8". So the lad gave me one out of the workshop stock. Yew cud've knocked me darn wiv a fevva! If they keep this up I'll have no choice but to acknowledge them as a bikeshop
