They do make you smile sometimes

I was on my way home tonight and was on the dual use pavement/cycle track. Ahead of me were two tattooed and hooded "yoofs" and I approached them with some caution.
No problem, yoof in front of me turned, smiled and said " you go past me, I don't want to be run over"
Now, this is one of those pavement cycle paths where you'd probably be better off on the road considering the number of roads turning across it. (6, before I have to cross into the road) One of these was just in front of us. I'm so well used to it I look automatically to my right, and I could see a car indicating left.
I said to Tatoo Guy, "Thanks, but I'll wait until the car's turned". Car duly turned left, in front of us. Tatoo Guy says " did you see the car in your mirror?" When I said yes, I had, and that's why I have the mirror he said he hadn't looked for the car and if it hadn't been for me he'd have stepped into the road. To which I replied "well that's something useful I've done today then"
He may have been jesting, I don't know. I just know I cycled the rest of the way home with a big smile on my face. Those two guys will think cyclists are not too bad now I think.
