I had heard that due to the large number of riders in the 2007 edition of this event the 2011 event may be more difficult to enter than previous years. Can anyone help?

try
http://www.aukweb.net/index2.htmThere is a contact form for Audax enquiries.
There has always been a qualification rule of which I am sure you are aware, a few years ago it was rumoured that countries with high "fail" rates would be required to meet qualification standards in the preceding year and the year of the event. But not sure if this ever happened.

The rumour is that ACP have instigated an early qualifier plan, open to riders who have completed a 400km ride in 2010 to have priority in their entry application.
(This is in addition to the standard qualifiers in the PBP year 2011, namely (IIRC) a 200 before end of March; 300 April; 400 May and 600 June.)
It's considered a good idea to complete an SR the year before anyway, so the new rule shouldn't be too restrictive.
