Wiggle shipping policy

Post by 661-Pete-oldversion »

Wiggle have announced on their website that due to the Postal Strike they are shipping everything via Citylink "until further notice".

Understandable but inconvenient. Citylink are not my best choice for delivery because they have a reputation for failing to deliver, instead leaving a card, and their nearest depot is 20 miles away! At least with Royal Mail my nearest collection point is less than a mile off, in case I get 'red-carded'.

I am minded to pass over Wiggle until they revise this policy, despite their good standard of service and prices.

I haven't checked what all the other mail-order sites are doing: I think some are still using RM.

Suggestions?

Parcelforce isn't affected.

I ordered an ultrasonic cleaner yesterday, Parcelforce delivered it this morning.

I think one point about this type of carrier is that, in general, the drivers are self-employed on various franchise arrangements. Therefore, your experience can very much depend on your local driver. Our local "Business Post" guy is first class. He delivered the only bike I've ever bought over the net - my Cannondale roadster from SJSC. I was out and he checked up the street till he got a neighbour several doors away who took it in. Being near J 27 of the M62, we have a lot of depots nearby, but the only time I've had to collect from a depot was with DHL and their place is several miles away. Their driver delivered to my next-door-neighbour one day and I offered to take it in because they were out. Somebody had written in the muck on the back of his van "The driver of this van is the grumpiest git in Leeds." A good description. The following day he had a small parcel for me with a Christmas gift for my son. I missed him by five minutes according to the time on his card and he had not tried at any of the neighbours, although loads clearly were in.

Parcelforce used to be quite appalling, a hangover from their days as part of the Post Office. They seem a lot better now, but again, that might just be our local man. Our postman is also brilliant. He's been delivering to us for donkey's years and nobody could be more helpful and efficient.

I ordered a pair of Smart rear lamps whilst they were on offer at just £8 each and a pair of chain link pliers on Tuesday evening. The whole lot came to just £29 and I selected free delivery. They were here this morning (Thursday). I added a note to the delivery instruction to the effect that they could be left in the blue bin (as usual) - had no problems at all up to now.
Well done Wiggle - and my kids say 'thanks' for the bag of sweeties :P

PS - the 1/2 watt lamps are very bright and small enough to fit on the back of a helmet. Just the job at 6am now the weather's closing in. You can't do enough for a visually/concentrationally challenged driver

Wiggle have had that notice up since before the earlier postal strike. I buy regularly from them and have never had a problem with City Link (or Parcel Force or the Post Office - Wiggle normally use all 3), in fact the driver is on chatty terms he comes here so often! Last time he called he said he usually takes back to the depot 2/3 of his daily drops as no one was in - he muttered something about 'ebayers'. Living in a small town, things are relaxed, I'll take stuff in for neighbours and vice-versa, we know our posties and they know us, we rarely have hassle with deliveries, but I can appreciate your mileage may vary.

I simply don't use any company that uses City-Link.

There delivery options are so limited, and to pick up is a 15 mile detour on the way home.

Last time I had a delivery I arranged to pick it up twice and both times made the Journey to discover that it was out being delivered. Then after the second detour I was left a note saying that as they had tried to deliver and I hadn't contacted them it was being returned to the sender!

Explained to the seller what the problem was and why it was being returned.

Evidently, what suits some doesn't suit others!

Point of information, Wiggle have amended their web page. They now seem to be using Citylink automatically, only in the London area (they say theres still a Postal strike in London area is this true?) I'm outside London so this won't affect me if they go back to RM well and good. Just as well I didn't fire off that angry letter to Wiggle I was thinking about!

On and off there have been postal strikes in London for the last 4 months. The National strike is the escalation because the localised strikes were being ignored by Royal Mail.

I've had bike bits, being "delivered" by RM, stuck in the post for nearly 3 weeks.
