The Zinkens Dynashoe seems to have been discontinued, are they any alternatives/clones still available. (I don't want a hub dynamo).

I don't know of any alternatives. You can always use the appropriate dynamo mounting clamp, but this can be a bit brutal if you've got nice forks. Not an issue for me, I mount my bottle dynamo at the back wheel where it's quieter.

There are 3 dynashoes on my bikes, unfortunately all in use. I'm surprised to hear they've stopped making them as they are very useful. I'd put an ad in Wanted, there must be people who've swapped to hub dynos who still have at least one for sale.

I've got an unused one, still bagged up, that I'd be prepared to sell.

Looking at the Tubus front rack mounting kit (for forks without braze-ons), it looks quite straight forward to use one of the clamps, because it provides a central fixing bolt to attach the dynamo to.

I used one but went back to a rear mounted one instead. With your dynamo up front you have to listen to the noise much more than with a rear fork mounted one.

So my recommendation for an alternative would be a good quality rear fork mounting one from SJS or equivalent.

I've found that when mounted behind the fork (on a braze on) the noise is reduced. Having the dyno mounted on some pressed steel so far in front of the fixing A) produces the extra noise and B) results in a less firm track, giving to slippage more easily C)in addition, slippage is increased because the rubber drive wheel is turning away from the tyre, whereas behind the fork the wheel is turning in towards the tyre, encouraging contact with it through this mechanism.

I'd also add that I've come to find the noise quite useful when I'm doing long distances at night. The change in dyno speed acts as an indicator of speed (often difficult to judge in the dark) and also highlights the effectiveness of my cadence between gears.
