Snow 99% gone from my area now, but unbelievably came across another accident within a few metres of yesterdays, at the bottom of the same hill. This time one car in ditch and a couple of others with minor dings, road blocked for cars by police but they waved me through. I did a comedy skid when I stepped off the bike to walk past the scene, the black ice was neither obvious nor to be expected as all around the snow had been melting furiously and it really felt quite mild.

Just been down the shop on the Big Dummy. It feels really well planted on the ground, it's good to have a heavier bike sometimes.

Although I did wheelspin when pulling off on the way back home. I guess fat frank tyres are great for the beach but not snow.

Kirklees had freezing rain yesterday and standing up was impossible never mind riding. The pavements and roads were skating rinks, people were crawling on hands and knees to cross the road. Official council policy was to grit major routes. The rain washed it off and mayhem resulted.

As I said on a previous thread, it can be worth wheeling a bike in this situation, it gives you a "third leg" stability.
