Yeah, that would be a sensible place to put the heating agent, not fouling any existing grips etc. I think it would only work well with straight bars, unless you had an unlimited source of heat for the larger area of drop bars. It could be something that you could pre-warm in it's own holder in the house, then just pop in the bar ends before you get on the bike.
I'm warming to this idea...
The issue would be that the alu bars would conduct and perhaps disperse the heat too widely (would it work better with carbon bars, I wonder?), but without experimenting how should we know for certain? Perhaps this device would be appealing for the regular commuter, even if it's not a goer for the long distance cyclist.
