Does anyone know wgere I can buy warm, winter quality tights/cycling bottoms with ankle zips. I do not want stirrups and I do not want a bib suport. All I want is a pair of thick winter tights, with an elasticated waistband and ankle zips. My size is medium and if anyone can help, please email me at: david.rand@tesco.net or call me on: 01603 811428. My current tights are by Lusso, but the no linger make them and I can find nobody who stocks them and yes, I've tried the CYC shop too. HELP!

I've searched high and low for these. I've tried the DHB tights rated to 3 degrees any my legs froze in them at around 3 degrees.

bought some of these

http://www.parker-international.co.uk/1 ... n=pid12561

again froze legs off at -2.

conclusion is no single pear of cycling trousers will keep you warm so now I now layer and have to wear

the above cycling tights,
down trousers,
waterproof trousers (to protect down trousers)

now I don't freeze but somethings happened to my body (maybe after my cycling accident) so I feel the cold more at 37 than I did last year.

just me, may be different for you.

All I have is a pair of long thermal pants from Marks & Spencer that I can wear under the Adidas running tights that I bought from JJB sports. I see no reason to spend a kings ransom on 'cycling clobber' if something else will do for less cost. Although I must confess that I do have cycling shorts & tops. But on my hands I wear thin woolen gloves from the local department store under a pair of large skiing gloves.

I use 2 pairs I got from Lidl or Aldi for £5 & £7 some years ago. They're a bit rubbish (one pair has ankle zips, one of which is broken; and the other is poorly - bib, which I've had to modify and ankle hoops) but they do keep me warm enough.

I have a pair of Aldi winter cycling tights and have a seat insert with ankle zips. I've found them to be excellent and would purchase a second pair, the next time Aldi have a cycling sale. However, saying that, the Aldi walking boots were total rubbish. also the Aldi winter cycle shoe covers were rubbish, zips broken after the 2nd week.

I know this is not answering the question, but...

For this purpose I just use standard thermal trousers which seem to have plenty of flex in the ankles to fit my shoes through (however, YMMV). In fact these days I am riding in *just* a pair of thermal trousers, because I can't be bothered to put on cycle shorts to cover 4 miles. It works really well (and means you are gaining a flexible multi-activity garment if that's worth anything to you.

I've just purchased a pair of Ronhill 'Trek' Tracksters and got them mainly for mountain biking, these have 2 zipped pockets, drawstring and no ankle zips. However, you can still wear a normal pair of cycling shorts underneath, as the Ronhills Treks don't have the seat inserts. Saying all this, I normally take a medium size, but find that the small size was a better fit.

If it was freezing, like a couple of weeks ago, I would of add a normal pair of thin cycling tights underneath.

I recommend Corinne Dennis (see Wesite). Well-made, warm, elasticated waist, ankle zips and reflectors. Best I've ever had.

At the start of the winter I got in some Gore Vista II Windstopper Tights and I love them. http://www.gorebikewear.co.uk/remote/Satellite/PROD_TWVISO?landingid=1212722558064R
I know that a lot of more performance related riders don't go with Windstopper as they like a bit of airflow but for long distance touring type riding they are perfect. I have the unpadded version and wear cycle shorts underneath. Read my Wiggle review below to see what I think:

"These tights are fantastic for winter riding. Having worn them out in temperatures as low as 3 degrees C I am really impressed with their performance. They let the cold in slightly around the knees but I actually quite like that. Also, in light showers (and snow) they haven't let the damp in.

I buy Gore products more than any other brand because they are great quality and their sizing seems to fit me perfectly. I am just under 6 foot and slim (11.5 stones). In most brands I'm usually a medium but with Gore I am always a large. The only criticism I have of the fitting is that they are too loose around the ankle. This is not a problem as if you're wearing them it's pretty much guaranteed you'll be wearing over-shoes too. The design is obviously well thought out as the tights are tight and loose in all the right places to allow for great cycling movement.

For me these are perfect but I'd warn people with massive thighs that you'll probably struggle with the sizing."

Since writing this I've been out in some pretty extreme temperatures and they've served me well. When it's really cold I wear these with some Ronhill Classic DXB http://www.ronhill.com/product-popups/tracksters/classicDXB/classicDXB.htm over the top. The Ronhill's are a really good and cheap alternative to cycling specific tights.

I like to prefer super stores and some little bit famous shop for purchasing winter clothes. I do not like to purchase clothes from online stores because I like to purchase clothes after trying or viewing physically. I got some good online source from the above posts but I just watch all of them and try to get them from land based store.
