Fork Mounted Front Bike Lamp Brackets

... in the UK?

I have found a couple of others. This one demonstrates what it is...

Image
... but mounts the lamp too high for my purposes.

And this one:

Image
Which I'm not sure will take a CatEye Flex Tight Light Bracket and can't seem to find in the UK anyway.
Ordered one from 2D Leisure Group but they decided they didn't have any in the end.

There is also:

Image
From http://www.bumm.de/index-e.html but not sure it'll take a CatEye EL530.

The first picture is the ideal mount but I've only found it to be available in Australia: http://www.moruyabicycles.com.au/contents/en-uk/d939_light-spare.html

I constructed my own mount from a corner brace bought from B&Q. This is however too rigid, heavy and not adjustable so I'm giving up with it. I want to mount the light here as when put anywhere above my bar bag the beam is obstructed too much and when put lower down on the forks my front panniers get in the way.

I'd be very surprised yet extremely grateful if anyone can help. Alternatively I'd be happy to see and hear about any other contraptions people have bodged together to serve the same purpose.

There is a mounting made by ESGE that could be modified, Saint John Street Cycles (SJSC) had it on there website. In addition if you search under "Brackets" on SJSC website you will see lots of brackets and I feel confident that you will find something that will do.

The Busch and Muller one is for the IQ Ixon, so if you are lucky enough to meet someone with that you could compare to see if they fit. Personally I doubt it.

However if you carry on to look at the mount for the IQ Ixon Speed that looks like it may be what you are after.

If you decide to risk it on the IQ Ixon bracket and it doesnt fit the Cateye light, I would buy it of you for £5 incl p&p. So you would only lose out on the postage, which is the big bit.

Unless you want the beam to skim the front wheel, you might consider something like this after all if you have no luck with your preference:

It's a Nimrod something or other, about £7 from Arthur Caygill Cylcles in Richmond. Actually, they also stock brackets that look a bit like the one you want.

There's a picture of the bracket (EL320 and EL610 will fit, don't know about EL530) on a bike here, if you're interested:

Thanks for the comments guys.

Keyboardmonkey... I looked at this mount but came to the conclusion that it wouldn't work with my set-up.
Meic... I didn't think I'd be able to attach a CatEye lamp to that mount and unfortunately for you I'm sure enough not to order one. Sorry.
Petzl... I ride a Thorn bike so SJS Cycles is always my first port of call for bike research. I've looked through their website more times than I'd care to remember and can't see anything that will do me. A lot of the mounts that could possibly be converted often sit too proud of the front mud guard, I'm not sure I have enough space to work with. I've posted a picture of the space I've got below. I tried raising the bar bag but didn't like the feel.

I got a quote of $24 for shipping the first mount pictured from Australia, about £14 which is quite a lot but still tempting.

You'll see from the picture I might be better off getting one of these:

But again, I can't find one anywhere near the UK.

Reckon I need to get out more!

Hi Fanwaar, why not try the Minoura SG200 adjustable, SJS Accessory brackets dept., mount it on the head tube under the bar bag, then just remember to slow down on the corners 'till the lights swing round to catch up with you.

This is a bracket and matching light from SMART. I bought the bracket from Dotbike.com. I have also been looking for the Minaura attachment but cannot find a supplier in the UK.

Wot I did.....

Get a Minoura SpaceGrip (not Swing Grip) and dismantle.

Now attach the metal "U" bracket direct to the stem bolt
Place the outer end over the "U" bracket and retain with the side bolts in the normal way.

Result - one secure light bracket.

(The bike is a Thorn Nomad, so the brakes are behind the forks)

DO NOT Touch the SwingGrip ... the bar is held on by a small tab which stress fractures in the first hundred miles dumping your lights in the road

The SpaceGrip is much stronger as the retaining base is more solid

Cunobelin... I prayed and you answered! Your SpaceGrip solution is absolutely perfect; a piece of light mount mastery. This will allow me to mount the lamp nice and low to the mud guard while also giving option for an extra light. Thank you.

From what I can see you started with the 80mm SG-100N (AKA SG2) http://www.minourausa.com/english/accessory-e/sg100n-e.html.
From your photo it looks as if you had to remove the small bits of plastic that jut out at the top and bottom of the bracket (the ones on the side are obviously still there) is that right?

I'm intrigued to know when you came up with this and how many miles you've travelled with it so far. It looks pretty robust but I can't see what's going on inside the casing.
Also, I see you have the black SpaceGrip, did you get it recently? If so, then where from? I can only find the silver version for sale in the UK. Not that important but you'll see from my photos that I'm keen on a nice looking machine, all my components are black and I'd prefer to keep it that way.

This solution has surpassed my expectations... seemingly obvious but I'd have never thought of it.

That isn't the same Minoura bracket that was illustrated further up the thread. The one I am looking for is designed to clamp onto the side of a stem riser (the tube that your handlebar stem bolts on to) and can be used to house either a light, computer or a twist grip gear change. The latter use enables flat 'bar bikes with twist grips to be converted to drop bars and still retain the gear change system.

I've got the Busch and Muller one for the Ixon on my commuter bike. I tried my old Cateye Opticube with it and it would not fit. The Cateye is slightly wider and has a bit that protrudes and catches the front of the bracket.

I had a chance to try my Ixon on a couple of Cateye brackets that looked like copies of the B&M brackets (or vice-versa).
The Ixon fitted perfectly but I didnt think to try the Cateye on the B&M bracket.

My Cateye 510 bracket isnt compatable but it looks different aswell.

There's a little plastic stub that TT'ers use to mount their computers on their tribars, It attaches using a plastic jubille clip type fitting. This could be attached to the right hand front fork and then you can mount your normal light bracket on it.

The stub is called a Chronometro knob:

http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/light-mounts.asp

Alternatively, the new style cateye lights have a similar jubilee clip style bracket. this could be used to mount the light on the fork, but the light would be sideways on.
