I am afraid I found there was too much truth in the last post to laugh about it

I see the proxy voting form is now available on the CTC website. With the following:

Motion 8 – To register CTC as a charity and merge with CTC Charitable Trust
Motion 9 – (To be withdrawn if Motion 8 is lost) – To authorise Council to register
CTC as a charity and merge CTC and CTC Charitable Trust
Motion 10 – (To be withdrawn if Motion 8 is lost) – To adopt the revised
Memorandum and Articles of Association

So it seems to all hang on the result of Motion 8

Motions 8 & 9 need over 50% of the vote to go through. Motion 10 needs over 75% of the vote to go through.

If you want to defeat the charity proposals, and tell Council to think again, then you need to vote against motions 8, 9 and 10.

I notice that there's a big pro-charity propaganda piece on pages 6 and 7 of Cycle. Nobody from the opposing viewpoint was invited to comment or contribute. The piece is full of spin and contains a number of incorrect or misleading (to be charitable) statements.

Nice to see CTC is being even-handed...

The more of these articles and pieces I see, the firmer my resolve becomes to vote no. MAybe mines a minority view :D

I always look forward to reading the mag when it drops through the door. But those two pages really spoiled the whole thing for me. Yet again we have someone from Council telling us to vote Yes and dismissing the questions that still hang over the proposal as having been answered despite no evidence of this.

My belief grows stronger that whether or not the charity proposal is a good thing, the way that it has been bull dozed through has the potential to do untold harm to the CTC, with respect for the Council dwindling. I guess that it's a good job that so many members of the CTC are untroubled by the politics of the club and just want to ride their bikes, otherwise certain members of Council would find themselves in an unpleasant position even if the vote is won!

The main pointer for me when looking at this now is the fact that as a Charity, CTC will only be able to use 25% of the membership fee (or is that 25% of total income?) to pay for member services. Presumably that will include salary of the Local Group Officer at National Office, Third Party Insurance premium, cost of the Membership Services contract, the subscription allocation payments to Groups, plus any requests for funding to set up new Member Groups? There could be more.

How can this be realistic? Something will have to be cut if it is 25% of the membership fee. I can't really see it being 25% of the total income. It isn't even going to be £9.00 per head as many members pay less than that.

Guidance on proxy voting is now available on the Save the CTC web-site.

Does anybody know at what stage the ERS reveals how many proxies have been received, and by whom?

My understanding is that ERS will send the returning officer a full report. I have asked to be provided with a copy of this report and it was agreed at Council that the report would be 'public'...

...whether the 'Cabinet' that tries to run CTC behind the scenes changes this before the AGM will remain to be seen.

I have no reason to believe that ERS will be anything other than punctilious I hasten to add. I've used them in the past and they're very conscientious.

I've nothing but admiration for the ERS, but it seems to me that the dynamics will be completely different if the way things are going is known in advance, rather than only on the day of the race.

My understaning is that the report will be available on the Friday afternoon.

It could come down to discretionary votes. What will be interesting is whether, if it sees it's on to a loser, Council decides to withdraw the motions on the day.

The main thing is that we really should all vote. We have that democratic right and even if the vote goes against what we ourselves would wish, the more members who vote, the fairer the result.

How so family members vote when we only get one proxy form with "Cycle"? Our household, and other that I know of, have more than one voting member, but only one proxy form.

You can download and print an extra form for your household members. The form is here: http://www.ctc.org.uk/resources/About_U ... g_Form.pdf

Thanks Karen - I know that now and I've actually amended my post to omit my question.

It will teach me to open my eyes and put my brain into gear before I open my big mouth,
