Advice on galaxy parts
I have asked for Dawes galaxy parts but am not sure of which model it is. It is light blue,231/2" and a Reynolds 531ST frame and forks thats all I know, It has one peg pump under the top bar, two bottle carriers, three cable braze ons with rear rack and mudguard fittings, any ideas please as to which model as I need advice on acquiring components for it.
Re: Advice on galaxy parts
The most important question is what are you trying to achieve? Just to build a touring bike? In which case you have a nice frame and a huge choice of components from any time in the last 20 years or so and limited only by choices of compatible gears, brakes and shifters. Or are you trying to faithfully recreate a Dawes Galaxy of the particular era? Which is a very much harder thing to achieve. And, in my simple opinion, a pointless exercise if you just want a bike to ride rather than look at.

Thanks for your advice I just want to build a tourer using the galaxy frame with good second hand components. So am asking advice as to suitable chainsets, stem and wheelsets and what peeps have to sell to build the bike.

Re: Advice on galaxy parts
Just to embroider on what neilob is saying, asking for spares for a Dawes Galaxy is a bit like asking for bits for a Ford Escort, except I think the Galaxay name has been in use a fair bit longer and covers all manner of spec. A pic of the frame would be handy or a detailed description: eg width of rear dropouts (determines the width of hub and, ulimately, the number of gears;) Type of steerer: does it have braze-ons for cantilever brakes?
It's often hard to strike the right level - not wanting to sound patronising while avoiding impenetrable jargon. If any of that sonds like gibberish, I'll clarify.

Re: Advice on galaxy parts
The fact that it's a galaxy frame is irrelevant here. It's a touring frame and you need touring bits to build it.
You need to make a few decisions, such as - dropped bars or straight? what gear system? what length stem?
You need to say whether it has an ahead or threaded headset.
You might find this quite difficult to do with the knowledge you seem to have. Do you know anyone who can help you out?
