Is the Cyclists' Defence Fund affected?

Sorry if this has been included somewhere obvious, but is the CDF going to be subsumed ( if that's the right word) into the general charity pot? I ask, because whenever I send anybody anything, I suggest they make a donation rather than pay me. I'd like to think that the money - small though it probably is - was permanently ring-fenced for something really useful.

My understanding is that the CDF, like CTC Holidays and Tours, will remain a separate organisation, with its own board.

The Cyclists Defence Fund was "transferred" to the Trust several years ago. The current fund is in the region of £100,000. IMO it is not being utilised as a cyclists defence fund.

No it wasn't. The Cyclists' Defence Fund is a separately instituted charitable trust. It operates entirely separately from the Club and the Trust. It will not be affected by the current proposals.

They can be found on the Charity Commission web-site
here. Because they are classed as a small charity, and their income/assets are less than the threshold, they don't have to submit full accounts to the Commission.
What the CDF spends each year will depend on the number of cases it deals with.

I notice that in the CTC Annual Report in April/May "Cycle", The CDF get a paragraph. This seems a little odd since the CDF is theoretically independent of the CTC (some CTC employees are involved in management of CDF). Does anybody know if CTC Trust ever donates funds to the CDF? There doesn't seem to be anything in the accounts.

Contrary to the spin and misleading statements (some might call them lies) given out by Council and National Office, the CTC Trust doesn't make any profit (evidenced by the fact that the Club had to give it a donation of £453,000 last year to enable it to balance its books) therefore it can't give any money to anyone else.
The CDF gets money from the Club and other sources, such as donations from members legacies and grateful clients.

I found that section interesting (It's on page 7.)
I was a teeny bit surprised that they are working on a book to be called
Cyclists' and the Law.* Assuming this is just an explanation of the laws governing cycling, rather than a critique, there can't be very much to say. That has the air of a solution in search of a problem. I do hope they'll always have the £££ and the determination to undertake Telford-type cases. Also, we need a 24/7 contributory negligence watch.
* It may no longer be true that you can be 'hanged on a comma' but you might expect lawyers to be more careful than greengrocer's

with their apostrophes.
