contempory group sets & bar end shifters

Post by workhard »

any one using them? I thinking of built to order for next c2w bike (audax-y sort of thing) and am attracted to the simplicity and field bodgeability of bar end shifters over sti/ergododads. I've had one bad experience after an off with a jammed/busted (and expensive to replace) shimano sti and that's coloured my judgement a bit. But for this new bike I'm going campy cos I want a fix of that r-r-r-r-r-r-ratchet sound

Anyone using bar end shifters with current campag gear? If so would you like to share your experiences

I've been using bar end shifters for a long time - I use them on friction as I didn't care for the click of the indexing. I can't say from experience if they are better or worse than modern index controls. I find them reliable and have had long use with no problems to speak of.

I am using Suntour power ratchet bar end shifters with Campy Mirage front and rear mechs,
works fine. Using 8s cassette and 7s freewheel hubs.

The friction setting on the Shimano bar ends is OK, a little harder to shift than the
Suntours.
