Citizenship Test
Citizenship Test
Have a look at this ...
http://www.ukcitizenshiptest.co.uk/
It seems potential immigrants need to pass the test.
I hope they don't apply it retrospectively. I've lived here for nearly 58 years and I only scored 46% and failed!! I did only take 4 minutes and not the 45 allowed

Re: Citizenship Test
58% also. Hmm, I'd better leave too.
Mind you, one question could have had its English improved:
"Which of the following TWO types of people get their prescriptions free of charge?"
There were four types, and they wanted you to choose two. Which is not what the question asks

Re: Citizenship Test
only 50% here too. So much for my 40 years here!
Do I have to leave now?
Do I have to leave now?
Re: Citizenship Test
I am ashamed to say that I passed. 19 out of 24 79%.
However what a load of rubbish and quite flawed too.
The one about prescriptions was an invalid question because ALL of those are entitled to free prescriptions UNLESS they live in some restricted areas.
The speed limit on single carriageways is 60mph? I think not, surely it depends on the little signs at the side of road.
A few of my correct answers were lucky guesses, afterall if there are only 2 options you should get 50% by luck alone.
More of an escaped pub quiz than a valid assesment of suitability.

Re: Citizenship Test
38%
Only 19 . . . didn't even know hardly any of the answers to them.
Oh, and the 60mph one, the NSL for single carrigeways is 60mph.
It's 70 on dual carriageways.
That's how it was in the theory test anyways learning to drive.

Re: Citizenship Test
also failed, but really is it relevant to know what year women were given the right to file for divorce? Percentage of children under 18? Percentage of citizens who are Muslims?
At least I knew the useful things like can I go to a hospital with or without a Dr's letter and to which dept, and how to find out information on employment rights etc. Surely these are things immigrants really need to know, along with; which way is the benefit office
With meic on this, some of the questions belong in pub quizzes, surely?
Not sure about his comments on the prescriptions, is this only relevant in Wales. I thought 60 - 65 would pay unless on benefits, presumably at this age one should still be in full employment it is only after 65 that OAP exemption starts?

Re: Citizenship Test
I take exception to the remark about the benefit office. Most immigrants from outside the EU come here with no rights to claim benefits - they work, pay taxes and N.I. but cannot claim. They come here to make a new life for themselves, and by so doing they usually contribute a lot to this country - more than can be said for a significant proportion of the residents who already have the luxury of British citizenship.
Some from the EU might come here to sponge off society, but not many in my experience. I think that we ought to take it as a compliment if people think this is a country where you can work hard and live a decent life.

Re: Citizenship Test
If you wish to take exception then feel free. When you write to the Immigration Department, you can point out that it was Question 10 which bought the subject up.
You are quite right that non-EU residents dont claim benefits, (they cant) but the test is for Citizenship and one of the rewards of British Citizenship is the RIGHT to claim benefits.

me too. it's more like the daily mail and sadly not the quality of comment i'd expect from here
Re: Citizenship Test
I think the interpretation of the comments was more influenced by the Daily Mail than the origination of them.
If I crack a joke about RLJ's or lycra, have I become an anti-cyclist Daily Mail reader?
I am not going to spin some fancy excuse like "some of my best friends are immigrants" and proceed to lay into them because any slur was in the mind of the reader, not the writer.

Re: Citizenship Test
i too meant no slur as evidenced by the fact I used
after the comment indicating I was joking.
I work in a very large organisation that would struggle to exist without the large numbers of; Asians, Middle Eastern/Arabic, Europeans, and just about any other country and /or ethnic group you can name. Believe me, the native caucasian workers are the most tolerant of the whole lot. There is far more prejudice between the various groups.
