Shimano SM-PD40 reflector supplier
Shimano SM-PD40 reflector supplier
Can anyone advise of a stockist for Shimano SM-PD40 reflectors. They are specified for use on PD-M424 pedals but I am unable to locate a UK source.
Re: Shimano SM-PD40 reflector supplier
Now I am looking for these as well, this thread came up on the first Google page for 'SM-PD40', but no UK suppliers evident
Re: Shimano SM-PD40 reflector supplier
There has been an ongoing debate about trying to get Shimano pedal reflectors. I've gone as far as mailing the distributor to be told "not available in the UK" for a different model. I think a couple people have had some success sourcing them from outside the UK, but expensive. If you do track some down, please post back, I know a good few will be interested.

Decathlon do the ones for standard SPD pedals

I saw that. And they have the M424s but don't specify whether they come with the SM-PD40 reflectors or not. Has anyone had any more luck with this? I'd really like to put reflectors on mine.

I could only find German websites selling them, €16 postage to UK!

I have a pair of reflectors from a set of Shimano 520 spds as per the Decathlon link. They are the ones that turn one side into a flat pedal and leave the other side as spd. Available for the cost of postage.

Thanks for the offer, but these won't work with the caged-type M424s I already have. Hope they are of use to someone.

Thanks for that. Your google-fu is stronger than mine - I only found a Czech site with no international sales. I'm toying with buying half a dozen pairs and selling them on Ebay for a few quid each to make back the postage cost, but it seems a silly length to have to go to.
Is there anyone else still wanting a pair if I do this?

Re: Shimano SM-PD40 reflector supplier
I used those shimano clip in reflectors pointed to above. They broke away and fell off in london traffic within a fortnght. I tried tying them on more securely but then they just flapped about . Never bothered since.
a driver peeped at me to tell me I had lost one . Good job I checked before giving him the finger!
I have put reflective tape on the pedal cages.
The german design looks as though it might be more useful perhaps.

Re: Shimano SM-PD40 reflector supplier
I've ordered half a dozen pairs of the SM-PD40s from Germany. In addition to the €16 shipping there was another, unexpected, £15 BACS transfer charge, so they will have cost £50 for six pairs including all currency charges etc., or £8.35 a pair.
I'm expecting them this week and will happily sell each the other five pairs for cost plus postage (will see when they get here how much that postage would be)
I know it's not cheap but it does make you street legal, and in the victim-blaming climate I want to be whiter than white (especially if it ever comes to insurance or compensation claims etc.)

Sorry, Doc, I have just the one pair left and they are already spoken for.
Their popularity tempts me to buy a good few more pairs and perhaps raise some pocket money on Ebay; will be in touch if I do.

Do note that cycle-aix require you to pay in Euros, which requires a bank transfer fee unless you have a euro account. My bank charged £14. Postage from cycle-aix is another €15.99. Onward shipping of any extra pairs is £1.71 1st class / £1.52 2nd class. (They won't pack into a large letter; I tried yesterday and they wouldn't go through the 25mm slot at the post office)
My little spreadsheet tells me you would have to sell 9 pairs at £8 posted to cover the cost of your own. Even after I had sold five other pairs through here my own had still cost me £11.
However, I do have a much smarter and more economical plan B, which I won't let on quite yet because it could earn me a little welcome pocket money through Ebay. I'm investigating at the moment and it's very likely I'll have one more pair of reflectors this time next week. If you can bear with me for just seven days it could save you a few quid.
