They had the full machinery of the CTC (facilities, money, contacts and cajoled staff) yet couldn't persuade members to support them. Whether it's legal or not, I think it's a farce that 400 people who couldn't be bothered to read the information and decide for themselves (like grown-up sentient beings) swung the vote for 8 & 9 to a "yes".
If those responsible try and spin this as any kind of victory for the pro camp, with the loss of 10 as a mere technical hitch to be overcome at a later date, then they will sink even lower in my (already very low) estimation. I hope there is some serious soul-searching, followed by resignations. The instigators of this whole mess have shown appalling lack of judgement matched only by their downright incompetence of even failing to force through their stated aims.
Best you don't look at the press release, as posted on the CTC Facebook page, then.
I've just had a look on there and can't see anything new about the charity thing. Just someone asking yeasterday why nobody was answering the phones at CTC. I had the same problem on Monday- I tried a few different numbers and got no answer. Haven't tried since.

Karen, might be this
Results from CTC’s AGM 17/05/2010
CTC members gathered at Loughborough University on Saturday 15 May for the CTC AGM. The agenda included three key motions to convert the whole of CTC – the UK’s national cyclists’ organisation into a charity.
Almost 4000 CTC members cast their votes. Motions 1 – 9 were passed, including Motion 8, which stated that the Cyclists’ Touring Club should be a registered charity and merge with the CTC Charitable Trust to form a unified membership organisation with charitable status. Motion 10 however, which proposed revising the Memorandum and Articles of the Cyclists’ Touring Club to meet the requirements of a charity, achieved 61% of the vote but needed 75% of support from CTC’s membership to pass.
Chair of CTC Council David Robinson said: “CTC is a democracy and just like in an election, sometimes there isn’t a majority and a clear answer. Our membership wanted a change and voted for charity status, but we will need to pass a revised set of Memorandum and Articles before we can proceed to the next stage. CTC Council will now reflect on the results, talk to members and consider why changes to the Memorandum and Articles did not receive 75% of the vote.”
David added: “The conduct, tone and spirit of our AGM were excellent. In the main discussion on charity status, we had 17 speakers and between them all angles were covered, demonstrating CTC’s long tradition of debate at its best. The result of the vote does not change the day-to-day running of CTC and we will continue our good work supporting members and promoting cycling.”

Oh yes, I've seen all that. I thought thirdcrank was referring to an item on the Facebook wall which mentioned that something was happening on Friday afternoon to try to advance the matter. The stuff on there doen't mention anything like that, unless I've missed something.
As you were.

Just to clarify, my reference to Friday was based purely on that being the next regular edition of the emailed newsletter. (And from the stuff already linked, it looks as though the spinning machine is already up to speed.)

Well it's after the vote, and I note that Council are looking for new candidates.
My vote will go to anyone who stands on a platform of keeping the CTC as a members' club.
Any takers?

New councillors are not elected at the AGM. If they are to fill vacancies which are coming up/already exist the voting takes place in September if I remember correctly. Votes are received by CTC in October and results published in November, with new councillors taking over from 1st January. Nominations for the current council elections close on the 15th August.

Well the attempt to depose the non-compliant Welsh Councillor failed.
He was re-elected on the basis that he will continue to be a thorn in the side or as you put it keeping the CTC as a members' club.
I have no problems with anybody standing against him and thank the opponent for sacrificing his time and energy and on another occasion I may well have voted for him.
However Head Office's attempt to have him opposed was too much for me to put up with.

Well said meic and many congratulations to Peter Brake in winning the Welsh election - long may he go on fighting for issues that actually help real members. Well done Peter, keep up the good work.
