Sensible input BigT. I would sometimes meet my touring club on my TT bike after having ridden a TT, I do not recall it was ever a problem.
Generally very few serious TT bikes would be used on a clubrun these days. Gone are the days where racers would ride out to events on their steel bikes with race wheels on sprint carriers, ride the event then join up with the club run. As race bikes are more specialised they are too light for the average clubrun IMO and not particularly comfortable.
I would imagine it is likely that someone who turns up on one will not last that long before they realise a second bike is required.

As for pointy bits sticking out that could cause damage in a crash; what about pedals, other bits of handlebars, brake calipers?

Yes, we allow tribars on our club runs, and I'm sure I've seen a TT bike out at some point. I believe our insurance covers the club from liability on club runs, but we ourselves aren't covered, so CTC membership is recommended for those who aren't BCF members, but not stipulated. This is in a pretty big Yorkshire club.

To reply to the poster above, I don't know about your club but most of the bikes I see out on a weekend are some form of race bike, such is mine and I don't have any problems with it.

There are too many rules. Don't bother banning things, just get out and ride.

Our club is any bike is OK, but don't use tribars when in a group (other than at the front or back).
It's not only the lack of quick access to the brakes, but that your control of the bike is compromised if you hit a pothole or something. We once had someone hit a pothole whilst using Spinacis in the middle of the group, resulting in a mass pileup. A broken neck for the person concerned (tho' of low severity as these things go), and someone else's frame written off.
