Hello all,
Chris here from Staffordshire, I am 64 going on 25, love road and mountain biking especially with a bit of "Urban". In recent years I got involved with e-bikes and now repair them for a few local bike shops.

Looking forward to getting involved in a few discussions.

Thanks for looking.

Hi all, just come accross this one, normally i head straight to the technical section to find some help!!.

Nick, Im a Dad, 1 son 4 years old, soon to be 2 sons.... childcare bubbles mean that I often have 2 or 3, 4 year olds on bike rides or BMX tracks. Me and my son love a trip to Bedgebury (my wife less so!), its local but not quite local enough for the current lockdown so often at Oxleas woods at the moment.

Keeping up with issues brought me to the forum, but also recovering parts which come my way, i hate to see waste.... and I like to test stuff when i get the chance, as a result i have SS, IGH and 10s wheels which i can swap in, Inspired by this forum i've recently set up an homemade double/double and i'm looking at a (super) compact 4/5/6, when i get some time..

Used to ride BMX, then track, then a SS commuter everywhere, i know the basics to maintain them, but that was about it. I brought a secondhand MTB for £50 in 1999 and replaced it in 2018, It was very squeaky and didn't trust it with a child seat. I replaced it with a decent off the shelf 1 x hybrid, which i sold 6 months later, and then brought a Pugsley off Ebay, the hybrid was not for me,....

I currently own,
A commuter, and a spare commuter... both normally SS and both recovered Charge MIxers.
A single speed mountain bike... Utterly impractical, but cheap and fun!... Its a Charge Cooker.. basically a mixer, but can take a bit more tyre, something i ride local with the kids to keep it interesting for me!
A Fat bike.. I wanted something robust that i could trust to use with the kids onboard. Surly Pugsley, its a mix of 9 and 10 speed parts, I've never investigated too hard, it works, and really useful for days out.

I do have one Alloy bike frame, a Ridgeback Flight frame, which i've 'built' into a road bike, It was originally aimed as a comprimise commuter, while i was waiting for the right frame, but could never find the right EBB shell for it, and a suitable steel frame turned up and it was never used. It's hardly been on the road and sits on my Turbo.

My son, has a 14 and 20 Islabike, a Raleigh Burner BMX. The 14 is too small for him, the 20 perfect, and the BMX a bit heavy, but he's attached to them all..

They all get heavily used, none of them are particularly valuable apart from maybe the Pugsley, which is a mud magnet... In fact i brought the Cooker to stop me using it daily and needing to clean it. I'm most attached to my commuter.

My son loves riding bikes and copying me, he's had a few spills but nothing too serious. He obsessed by riding up and down steps, which has its issues, but he's pretty good at it... He sits on my Pugsley for off road fun, and really enjoys it. It has an tow bar fitted for when he downs tools!

Hello there!

Just really got into cycling only very recently after many years of being way too fat to do it, tipping the scales at 21st and 13lbs last year I started walking the local hills to lose weight and now I am down to 18st (and managing to keep it off this time!) I am wanting to start riding on the road bike, I bought a Ribble 525 Reynolds steel bike a couple of years ago to try and kick my butt to start doing something about the weight but it didnt happen until now.

Anyway bit about me, I'm 44 and live in Rossendale, Lancashire so plenty of hills to start huffing up around me, I have set a goal to ride up one of the passes in the Lakes at some point, no idea when that will be as takes me a bit to recover at the moment, but I will get there and i am now the proud own of two bikes, the Ribble referred to above and also a Specialised mountain bike which I have been out on over the last few weeks.

Over the years I have participated in eating way too much pizza and drinking large amounts of alcohol which I am glad to say I have now knocked on the head for a healthier and hopefully longer life than I would have had if I had carried on going as I was doing.

Hope to learn lots from you guys on here and no doubt I will be asking the stupid questions as I go along!

Cheers,

Anthony

Age: 56

Occupation: Mineral Process Engineer

Favourite colour: Blue

Bikes/Cycling: I started riding again more five years ago when I bought a Scott Hybrid on holiday in Newquay, started riding with some friends back at home and quickly realised I had the wrong bike, the final straw was the Wiltshire Wildcat in 2017. I upgraded to a Giant Defy days later. At the beginning of the first wave I really upped my game and now ride 2/3 times a week sometimes more, I bought a turbo trainer last October and a Gravel bike about the same time. Aiming to ride 2021 miles this year, already over 800.

Status: Married with grown up off spring

Interesting fact: I have been a blood biker since 2010.

Hello!
I'm Andra, living in sunny Cardiff.
I used to do a lot more cycling, from my first bike when I was 12, but age and general aches and pains have gradually reduced my miles. I also paint and do calligraphy, and spend much time online, in these strange times.
Current ride - an old Clockwork Orange I've had for years - it just fits me, so have altered it to suit.

Hi!

I'm in the U.S.A. in Florida, but am a Brit by birth. Born in Hackney, East London and raised in Stoke Newington, North London. Attended William Patten junior school in Stoke Newington, and Upton House School for Boys in Hackney, East London. Moved to the states in 1978.

I have two bikes, a Specialized Fatboy, and an Electra 7D Lux beach cruiser. I do my own wrenching on them and keep them in good shape. 9,700 miles (15,610km) on the Fatboy, and 1,600 miles (2,575 km) on the cruiser.

I'm 74 years old, soon to be 75 in July 2021, and am thankful for good health to be able to ride. I ride 4.2 miles each morning, and the same again in the evening, with the occasional ride of 16 - 20 miles.

If I knew how to ride a bike, safely, I'd do it every time.

Yes I ride motorcycles, have done for over 40 years, a couple of breaks many years ago but consistently since 1991, 7-10 k miles a year, both here and overseas.

Hi Percy, welcome to the forum. I enjoyed going there a few years ago when the wife and I took the Mickey out of Florida ie we never went near a theme park. Wifes brother has a place right on the beach at Indian Shores, we enjoyed a week there but in September boy was it hot! Went all over Florida - Everglades, the Keys, Naples, Eddison Ford estate, Sanibel, Dali Gallery, Cape Canaveral, Miami, loads to see and enjoy. Pretty flat everywhere, just a few slopes. The wildlife and birds were amazing.

What part of Florida are you in?

Al

Bikes/Cycling: used to commute to work etc when I was in early twenties but only ever a couple of miles. As soon as I could afford a car, the bike went. Picked up bikes for me, my missus and kids and cracking at it now and LOVE it. Definitely hooked. I live in the East Riding of Yorkshire and loads of lovely places and roads to bike. I'm riding a cheap halfords Carrera and I said to myself (and the missus) if we're still riding a year from now, I'll treat us to some decent bikes. I already know I will be! My riding seems to be a mix of pootles with the missus and some faster ones on my own.
