My Dawes Sardar has 2 water bottle carriers withing the 'V' of the frame.
Any ideas how to fit a third one on the lower frame 'in front' of the pedals?
Thanks

For £2.99 Halfords sell these strips which go round the frame and have cage bolts built in

There have been various adaptors sold from time to time Zéfal used to do some, I gave mine away. I've just found this www - although it's american and not everything will be available here, it's about as comprehensive a study of the subject as I've seen.

I'm surprised that it doesn't have mounts down there - I'm sure that my OneDown (on which the Sadar is based) does.

Anyway I just use two jubilee clips to mount extra cages - £1 for a set of 7 from the Pound Shop.

After carefully drilling two holes in the right position you should install 2 nutserts with something like this: - http://www.tooltime.co.uk/shoppingcart/ ... ol-633942#

Don't drill directly oposite a nutsert in the upper side of the tube though

Thats how its done in the factory

I also use a couple of jubilee clips, works fine.

This is crude, simple, cheap and it works.

Get a bottle cage and cut a length of old inner tube and tie the cage onto the bike with the inner tube as a bed, with strong zip ties, pulling them really tight with a pliers. I've one bike with such an arrangement in place for 5 years or more.

Rixen & Kaul, makers of the versatile Klik Fix system, do one for a bottle... looks neat. :)

Unless you're distance touring with panniers there aren't many situations where you can't top up a water bottle. And if you are, the panniers usually have pockets a bottle will fit. My camping tourer has three bottle brazings but the lower one is used for cooking fuel and I don't remember being short of water.
It might be worth using larger bottles. There used to be a cage with adjustable bands for supermarket sized bottles but I'm not sure it still exists.

I take a couple of 750ml bottles plus another one in my luggage. As Glueman says, you can always find somewhere to top up.

Before I had an second set of bottle bosses, I used a Minoura bottle cage holder. I bought it from Wiggle but they don't seem to list it now. It works a treat and clamps on a frame tube very neatly. A standard bottle cage fits on easily.

Has anyone noticed that places that used to have water available now have notices attached saying that this water is not suitable for drinking. Several places on exmoor are now like this, usually council premises such as toilets etc. I assume this is because they may have a header water tank topped up from the mains and the header tank is possibly open to "attack" by vermin.

Are you sure it's not just that the safety Nazis in the council aren't worried by compensation lawyers?

I bet that there are signs warning of "Scalding risk: dangerously hot water" too...

Does anyone have any experience of the Beto Universal Cage, which appears to just clip on the handlebars or elsewhere. I'm thinking of it when I occasionally need an extra cage for drinks or to carry fuel? http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Beto ... -14931.htm

I've taken to buying 2 Evian bottles at the start of a trip, 'cos I know they're a good fit in my 2 bottle cages. Topping up as I go works v. well in France - there''s a public tap of potable water in every cemetery, near every village church. Not so easy in England, though. I've sometimes been refused water in England. I think pubs seem to have started to insist on selling bottled water of late. Folks in cafes still seem OK about polite requests...
