Can you still get those slim square batteries (about 3" x 4" x 1")?
What are they called?

Do you mean those 4.5v ones with the long tabs?
They are sometimes available in outdoor/climbing/caving shops for head torches but their getting rare.

I was unable to find this type of battery anywhere so adapted my head mounted lamp to take a different battery.
It is possible to get battery holders of various sizes in model shops. I found that the one that takes the rectangular 9v battery just fits into the same space as the flat battery and its quite easy to join the wires onto the original terminals. Then changed the bulb to match the new Voltage and my lamp has a new lease of life.
Hope this helps - Jennifer

Yes, they're the 4.5v ones with long tab. Got some today in Blacks outdoor shop - £4 each (but got 10% off with YHA card).
Thanks for your help.

It's not the wind in your hair, Jac, that I noticed about your picture thingy.
Who the heck is your wheelbuilder?

Hi Mick - It me unfortunately - a bad day - left handed drawing with a mouse that would not co-operate.
my real wheels are a whole lot better - almost round - I think - even after the lincolnshire pot holes.

a bit late, but only £1.72
here
the type numbers to search for are 3LR12 or MN1203, so if you search for "MN1203 battery" o "3LR12 battery" you should come up with an assortment of options.
there are also
adapters available to use 3xAA batteries instead (these don't last so long though).

You can also get the batteries in Robert Dyas, but I paid £7 for one (for a head torch).
Dai, you're not thinking of the Lincolnshire Poacher getting a toad in his hole, are you?

I don't even think it's a modern bike, I mean who pedals using the front wheel - (Burroughs recumbent aside). Perhaps she's in her second childhood
