.
Brompton's Lagoon Blue seemed a good match for this Heron on a wall in Burscough, and the optician's advert on the wall next to it.
I bought the bike a few months back off the forum, I like it .

That looks good, and am I right in thinking that the rear carrier is a 3rd party after-market affair, that the chainring/chainset is aftermarket with lower gearing, and that the handlebars are non-standard too ?

Thank you.freiston wrote: 24 Dec 2025, 11:00pm That looks good, and am I right in thinking that the rear carrier is a 3rd party after-market affair, that the chainring/chain set is aftermarket with lower gearing, and that the handlebars are non-standard too ?
The rack is the original cast aluminium Brompton one.
The front chainring is a replacement 38 tooth one, it's a bit low for going down a local bumpy hilly as pedalling has no effect. I think it might be a bit less lively if I could get a bit of purchase through the cranks with higher gearing (pet theory). A larger, but still smaller than the standard 50t ring came as a spare with the bike ( thanks again Dave), which I might try, but I appreciate the low bottom gear (26 gear inch ? - I can't remember exactly) for getting back up the same hill close to home.
The handlebars are the Brompton P bars which are similar to butterfly bars, but stood vertically, with little or no room to tilt (to alter the reach), they give a Dutch bike type, very upright seating position, but also give a second position out of the wind on their lower loops. I think Brompton stopped the model with these bars fitted in about 2018(?).
The model is P6R - i.e. P bars, 6 speed with rack.

Re: Pictures of your bike(s)
Ah, thanks for the reply. I have a C line 12 speed and I swapped out the 50T chainring for a 40T - I definitely need the resulting (24" I think) low gear for a few of the bumps of north Warwickshire. I can't remember what the high gear is but though I still use it most journeys, I'm happy not having a higher one. Mine has the "medium" bars and gives me an upright riding position too.

My Raleigh Clubman. 45 years old today, tomorrow it will be 46!
Re: Pictures of your bike(s)
Full carbon road bike now with low touring gearing and bar end shifters to suit my health issues. Still silly-high top end, might drop to a 40/26 front.
My cheapskate answer to electric!

If that's a 105-5703 chainset you could fit a smaller granny ring with a BCD of 74mm.djnotts wrote: 28 Apr 2026, 12:29pm Full carbon road bike now with low touring gearing and bar end shifters to suit my health issues. Still silly-high top end, might drop to a 40/26 front.5502.jpg
I still have the 30T inner but using a 12/34 cassette.
I did try a 28T granny but for some unknown reason it didn't change gear nicely.
It could have been because it was off an 8 speed ??

^@cycleruk, got a 34 on rear (deore rear mech so no hanger extender) and yes will probably drop to a 26 inner (as on my Tiagra triple on the alu road bike!). With friction shifters should be fine.
A 40 will be plenty high enough and save weight!
