Spare space, maybe two - LeJOG August 15th

A group of us will be riding LeJOG on August 15th this year. The plan is to do it in just 8 days and will be fully supported. Some nights camping, some nights hostel.
The support team will erect the tents and also arrange the cooking of the food in the evening/morning. Plus, deal with the feed stations every 25/30 miles.
Ideally it would suit people based around South Birmingham/North Worcestershire, as transport will be provided there and back for you and the bike.
See link for more details, cost, routes and the person to contact if you are interested.
HereThis is an ideal chance to do this classic ride at a very low price, even if it will be hard.

Quite a big age range to be honest, from early twenties to around 60 years old.
All on racing type bikes.
Again quite a wide range of experiance, ranging from a couple that have only been riding a couple of years to some with 30/40 years experiance.
The format has not been fully decided as yet, but we expect the group to maybe split into two groups. Those that want to speed ahead and those that want to enjoy it.
But it is very much intended to be a group thing, with the main group only being as fast as the slowest man.
However, in saying that, please be aware that it is a long way and it will be hard in places, so a certain level of fittness will be required in order to complete the ride.

I have done a fair bit of mountain biking and did the Coast to Coast last year on road in three days in torrential rain for all three days. No sweat!! Done the London Marathon this year and doing the Great North Run in September so fit enough.
Just looking at getting a road bike as done everything on my self build carbon framed mountain bike so need something quicker.
Any recommendations? There is so much choice. As fully supported ride an out and out racing bike, sturdy but quick may be the best option.
Will check my dates when I get home.

There is one fundamental question you need to answer before you start looking for a new bike. What is your absolute maximum budget?
Then look at your requirements, will it be a year long riding bike, if so you might wish to consider getting a frame with proper mudguards?
What sort of events will you be riding, hilly events may make you lean towards a triple?
Then look at the actual frame dimensions, ie top tube lengths, which will narrow your options down to just a few to be honest.
Then its just a case of finding a colour scheme that you like....easy!

Focus Road Bikes seem good value.
Bianchi via C2C bike.

You will be much better asking this question in another section rather than this one to be honest.

Suspect that 120 miles a day for 8 straight days may just be a touch to far for this marathon runner, fell runner, triathlete, but not so experienced road cyclist. Wish you well for the trip, the Scout Hut in Bakewell is very basic, come round to mine if you prefer!!
Good luck guys see you on the road going abit slower I suspect. I am planning on more like 100 miles max per day.
Thanks for the information.

Many thanks for the offer, but there will be about 12 of us including the support crew!
So the basic Scout hut it is then. Mind you, we will be that knackered I don't suppose anyone will notice or even care how basic it is for that matter.
