I have been using Scotoiler Active fluid with a derailleur, on my commuting bike, (I dont bother with the application jockey wheel / pump, I just apply it from the bottle) the chain hasnt stretched much yet and looks clean:
perhaps an alternative to hub gears in Britain where buying a hub gear bike involves special effort, and getting them fixed, more so.
NB I still use 6 speed, so chain / cogs are nice and sturdy,

i'd love to see pics of this scot oilering device. how does it protect the vulnerable mech from damage by a sustrans barrier & the overtense RHS spokes from premature death? i must say, it's quite a box of tricks and i'm well intrigued

The gubbins of the Scotoiler sits at the frame or handlebars, while you run a very thin plastic cable through which you pump the scot oil. My chain has been very clean since, but the bike has barely been used as I went fixed. Would be interested to hear how you got along with the hub gear.
If I had a baby elephant, I would put it on a recumbent trike so that it would become invisible.
